hi all,
had an idea 3/4 years ago for doing away with the rubber collector in front of the air box and having the air coming straight through the frame and sealing it all by the lower edge of the frame just above front cyl head .
it seems somebody else had the same idea as i saw photo,s somewhere on the web using a flat air filter accross the frame but cannot find it now .
anybody else seen it and where??? does it improve anything? obviously it increases air box size. just want to have another look and check what filter is used..

Rich ....

never seen that matey but if you find the pics please post em up as I've never heard of it.

Deacs :thumbup

Only seen mods where people use lower part of airbox only and seal of the top part to the tank.
I think that would be easier to achieve than yoir idea, or not?

hi, and thanks for your reply.
already have an alloy replacement plate instead of the air box with std type round filter (with top covered)but the filter i saw on the web looked much neater and any increase in air box size while doing away with the collector rubber must help bhp.also has anybody ever moved the rev limiter up?when my race rsv was last dyno,ed mine was pulling 140 right up to the limiter with no drop off 5/600rpm before limiter as my road 1 does..

Well, if you make your own diy kit i will be interested in your current solution;-)
Good luck searching!

thanks lone ranger,
it is similar but the one i saw has a flat filter across the frame over the holes and where the electrics are mounted in the pic which leaves the air stacks open to gulp as much air as possible and a rubber seal around the edge to seal the tank/frame edges.
will be making my own when i get a free hour or two but the filter may take a bit longer..

Rich..

bumped, somebody else must have seen this mod .... or i am going mad again!!!!

Could it be a mod using the MWR airfilter?
When i saw this first advertised i actually thought it was an open filter mod kit, which it was not.
The filter fits around the complete airbox leaving only am opening where the round original filtwr would have been.
I believe one csn easily use this filter to make an open system

Look for the filters advertised for milles from 98 to 03
