Well i am now out of the motorcycling game !!, the crank is foobarred.
The keyway has opened up to a wedge shape and the opening up process has pushed the metal to form a bump or a ridge on the keyway edge.
So an Enormous thankyou to all who have helped and supported me but this is one battle I cannot seem to win, so with a heavy heart Kiwi is bowing out.......................keep right side up folks & goodbye.
Kiwi mate that sounds no worse than the Tuono that did much the same thing recently.
That was sorted by use of a dremmel on the crank and the flywheel which both took a hammering. The keyway we cleaned up with the dremmel as best we could and then used a bit of liquid metal to reshape it and refitted everything with lots of threadlock.
2 months on it's still going fine.
Obviously ideally you would take the crank out and fill the keyway with weld and get it re cut if you had the time and money. Actually the cost isn't that big if you do the stripping yourself but obviously the strip down isn't easy or a 5 minute affair.
You won't make it any worse by going route 1 initially so give it a go. The threadlock is crucial though. Lots of it and the right stuff. It's expensive stuff but it is super strong hence why the flywheel usually doesn't like coming off.
The thread lock IMHO is Loctite (red) and costs around £7 from any good tool/hardware/motor factor shop.Worth a try,it really is wicked stuff, needs a heatgun to loosen so use carefully.AL PS.Loctite number to follow.
Aprilia and Ducati call for loctite 648 to do the job.
Last bottle i got was an equivalent from an engineering shop and cost £40
The shop assistant told me it was about as strong as general thread lock can get and is high temp. Non high temp stuff with soften with the heat and loosen.
Scott. I've got about a third of a 50ml bottle of 648 left - should be more than enough to glue your rotor on if you bodge up the key slot. PM me your address and I'll send it to you.
thumbup yeah dont let him give up. frankie needs to live.:biggrin big cuddos to you guys for helping out like you are. like I always say real good peeps here ..donnie
