Hi,ive been searching the site for any info or photo but not really found what i was looking for?,ive been thinking about replacing the silver side panels on my 99 with the later model panels(wire centres),but the later panels look alot smaller? i dont have any yet just going of pictures has anybody tried to do this?. :dunno
If so is it just a case of a straight swap or would i have to start cutting etc,not really up for that, would like to put back to standard if it looked pants, just fancied a change if its an easy job?.
Cheers if any body can help :thumbup

You would have to drill and tap the cast part of the frame the tail unit bolts to, get a plastic tank and possibly a newer model riders seat.

Fitting the panels is easy drill and tap the cast part of the frame and the top subframe rail but not really necessary.
but you will be left with a gap at the bottom of the tank, see pic
A later model tank will fit but you will also need to change the airbox lid and you will have to fit a seat pad or you will have another gap at the tank.
I really wouldn't bother I did mine years back and thought it was a good idea but now I think the original bikes just have the edge on looks

If I understand you corecty, you want to replace the 99 side panels with the 01-03 side panels?

This can be done without problems.

If you want to get the 04+ farings on, then you have problems.

why not get some fancy carbon fibre type jobbies? big improvement looks wise IMO. i've got a pair with the gold mesh. i think it improves the look but don't ask me where i got em as was already on the bike. there are a pair of carbon fibre panels on the bay at the minute but pricey! ebay
