Relay Question (Wiring)

I`m sure everyone is sick of questions about starting problems, but here we go.
Had a problem about 2 week ago, so bought a new battery (read the forum, so got a YTX14BS)
Still wouldn't start.... so again from reading the forum, i bought a new Yam Relay (thank to Wigan Yam for posting it)

Got the relay today, and went to put in on, just to notice that the red wire on the current relay, is not attached to the relay, but is taped into other wiring. The bike has a Datatool alarm..... which is working perfectly... is this why the wire is "re routed".:dunno

Any help would be great... haven`t been out for a spin in two weeks:angry:angry

Cheers
Dave

yes your spot on but i'd imagine your alarm is responsible (indirectly) for your starting problems!

Have a pic, but can't post it (already tried)
Suppose the best thing to do, is trace the current wiring and replace the relay.
by the way...Bikes on charge at all time

Are you saying that the thick red wire at the solenoid has been disconnected or is it the thinner control wire that has been severed/disconnected?

The Datatool alarm would have a trigger wire that would in effect cut the 12v feed to activate the solenoid when the alarm is activated. Upon deactivation of the alarm the circuit is then made via the internal circuity of the Datatool alarm unit.

I very much doubt that the Datatool unit could handle the current put through it by the battery for starting.

Its the red & white control wire, that re directed to some other wiring, not the thick cable from the solenoid.

I guess i could connect the new solenoid, and leave the old red wire, where it is :thumbup , as long as this wouldn't mess up the alarm :dunno

That's OK, the control wire will go off in to the loom so that the alarm unit can control the feed/earth for that circuit.

Just connect it all up as it was and see if it works, if not you may have to reconnect the red/white control wire and bypass the alarm control for the starter circuit.

Trouble is this will invalidate your insurance if your premium is based on the fact that an alarm is fitted.

Cheers lads...
day off tomorrow, so hope to the bike going, and if the rain stays away.... happy days

Thanks again :)
