Hey guys,
bought a new toy a couple of months ago - tuono 1000 twin less than a year old with less than 700 miles on it..........................looks amazing and rides even better.............after adding arrow titaniums, 15t sprocket and tail tidy.....................!!!!!!
had a moment the other evening though when changing down a gear entering a r/bout when the rear locked when releasing the clutch...............change pants time once home I can tell you.............!!!!!! bike would only just tick over and when revved on it's way back down would stall at 2500 revs...........had it looked at by aprilia mechanic and it was a small hose that had come off under the tank as it was split (think its the vacuum hose that links with the step up motor, so he said), just posting to see if any others had had this problem as it very nearly had me off the bike - I was quite surprised it is only a push fit considering the consequences when it falls off - all done now under warranty but pretty concerning.......!!!!!
Cheers

Had the same issue but no back wheel lock up. Bike went in for its 2nd service. After about 3hrs I collected it & rode away. About a few hundred yards I though this is not running right/like it used to. Very lumpy, cutting out now and again so filled up thinking petrol issue and it even cut out at the garage. So decided to head back to the dealership. Back at the dealership got the expected responce 'ok when we rode it' 'its me' anyway I insisted it was not running correctly so they had a quick look. Ended up being the vacuum hose slight split!. He even came out with the pipe. Its like a straw!!!. Told this was unusual/never had this before. I think it must be when they had the tank off (replacement). After this is was back to its old self.

Only concern now is like recently its been in for a service and I am sure its runinng a little more lumpy around 3k. Starts making one think. But then again I may be that I was spoilt test riding the V4 and it made me realise how lumpy the v twin is at 3k. (but thats the character!!):thumbup

Has been talked about on Ape sites before, had mine 3yrs not happened to me. Also are easily dislodged when working near them.

You may have locked the back wheel by either letting the clutch out too quickly, or been going to fast for the gear you dropped down to. Do you blip the throttle when changing down before releasing the clutch to keep the engine revs up?

will sound like bollocks if you dont understand how your bike works or why you blip the throttle in the first place mush

Thats news to me. I always blip the throtlle with no problems. Where did you hear that, as it sounds a load of bollocks to me?
Afraid its true mate, i must admit i still blip the throttle in the dry but never in the wet :eek

Speak as I find Grin:thumbup
I am a ex instructor and have a few clubman racer friends and we argue about this stuff all the time , and yes i still blip the throttle now and then ,hard to stop after riding a 180 rwbhp ZX12 for 7 years :lol

Fair does Ralphie, I've blipped on all my bikes, its more habit with me. Only had a small lock up yrs ago on a CBR1000 kicked down 2 cogs too quickly, but lived to tell the tail.

The Tuono already partly operates the clutch (they call it PPC) if you go down the box quickly automaticlly , so blipping (matching revs) is less effective ,shame Aprilia didn’t go for a proper slipper clutch

A'll bet Turbo's wonderin whit the feck gf's #4 wiz all aboot. :dunno

Yer a fud mucker. :yes

I always blip the throttle and my slipper clutch thingamabob still works. I shall stop blipping the throttle from now on though. Cheers BR

Blip under bridges instead to make up for it lol ,but yea sorry turbo I guess the pipe was to do with the PPC system

Hi
About the vacuum pipe had a problem
With them splitting after fitting a hooked air box.
Got some 2mm silicone hose off
Fleebay and works a treat.

yeh the wheel locking up was nothing to do with dropping down to hard or dumping the clutch - I was pootling home from work at gone 11pm after a long shift - reason the wheel actualy locked was because the engine had stalled, spoke to the aprilia mechanic and this hose splitting seems fairly common but usually after the tank has been off after 2nd service, but it's the first one he'd seen that had actually split then fell off - hence why it was just about ticking over once started again, but it was stalling once it was dropping back down the revs at about 2500rpm - if it had just split it would have just been running really rough - or so he says - does for me....!!!!
And as for the blipping of the throttle - great conversation you guys have had.......................
cheers anyway ;-)

cheers bossy - yeh the mechanic I spoke mentioned the second service being the time when this is fairly common if they're not careful removing / replacing the pipe when the tank comes off.....................good luck with it......!!!!! and the V4 looks good but still prefer the look of the 2006 - 2010 model....!!! ;0)
