Rear brake.

Hi,

I bleed the brake and it works really well but I have to press the lever so far down I have take my foot of the peg and use my heel, can I adjust it so there's less travel?

You can adjust the push rod, extend it but not too much, the only way of changing the height of the pedal is by spinning the toe lever around.

I extended it too much the other day trying to get it sorted, wheel span round freely on the paddock stand but went out and the back brake was biting hard on the rear and was cooking the discs and pads.

Had a bleed today (again) tried the lifting the caliper high method, (also took brake caliper apart) still not amazing so back bled it, now if I stamp down hard I can lock the rear but quite possibly the most shonky back brake I have ever used.

You sure you're not just using your foot to stop the bike.
To be honest it's pretty common but some bikes are ok. My back brake is strong enough to stop the bike but not lock back wheel but I'm fairly easy on the brakes

Tried fixing mine, same as yours super, bled it, messed around with it. now i just about works.
Only reason i want it to work is for the MOT.
If i need to brake harder just squeeze the front one harder and knock it down a gear or two..

I recently had issues with my back brake. It was working fine, but it was time to flush the brake fluid. Bled it properly and damned if I could get the friggin thing to work at all. Finally used a vacumn pump and got it working. Worst brake to bleed that I ever have run across. I suspect that air is trapped in the hose from the master cylinder to the brakes. The way that it's routed just looks like a high spot that could trap air. I was thinking of somehow positioning the bike with the front end way up in the air with the reservoir off the bike, but I thought 'one last try' and it works. I'll think twice before flushing those brakes again. Never really use them much, but nice to know that they are there if I ever need them. No, they won't lock up, but they work well enough to bleed off some speed.

Perpetual problem loons....nae point in stressing ower it! The fronts are good stoppers an the engine brakin makes up fur anything else. As long as theres a wee bit o brakin wi the rear it's enough tae stabilise the bike when ye need it.

Ah jist live wi it as ah did wi ma RSV afore it. ye can spend the rest o yer days tryin fur rear brake Nirvana but lifes to short min!

The rear brake on the T is a ***** to bleed. I mentioned that I finally got mine bled, but it took reading the Aprilia Service Bulletin before I could get it bled properly. The rear brake still sucks, going to try HH pads and see if they help at all. I did the procedure of removing the caliper and raising the calipers above the seat. Was a ***** to do - had to loosen the right can in order to work the caliper up. Also had to remove the plastic bit that holds the brake line. Not the easiest to get off, but once the caliper up with the bleed nipple as the high point and I put the vacumn pump on the line, all of the air came out. Just follow the write up and it works. Like I said, they still only slow the bike a bit and I'm going to try some EBC HH pads. Put them on my Sprint last year and those front brakes went from requiring a handful to one or two fingers. Big difference in the feel on the Sprint and I hope the same on the T.
