Rear brake recall

Hi everyone, most of you know but there was a recall for the rear brake on 04-09 rsv1000r. Maybe affected some other models also. Just wanted to let you know what it involved. The rear master cylinder gets drilled and has
a bleeder screw installed on the forward edge along with a new fluid reservoir with a larger diameter outlet below. I just had this work done and brakes work like they should now. We'll see how long it lasts before having to bleed again. I'm thinking atleast if any air does get caught up in master cylinder bleeding will be more efficient from 2 locations now. Just make sure to check free play when you pick it up!

I have an 04. Got my brake done bout a year ago, (the previous owner never got it done).
Don't get your hopes up pall, unless mine was a bit of a bodge job it doesnt last long.
I had mine done to get it through it's MOT but only a month later it wouldn't even hold me at the local traffic lights.

Hope mine is a one of case mate and yours works forever. OOoo If you do have to re bleed it yourself after, don't get put into the trap of using DOT 5.1 it doesn't help and actually doesn't work as long. Use DOT 4.

Put a railway sleeper on my back brake pedal when parked up, and its not needed bleeding for 18 months. Before this er mod, it would only last a couple of weeks before no brake again..

Hi guys.. you have to get the bottle + master cylinder moved, aprilla said to me around £240 but i have found a guy (now a v good mate) to move it all for £40 and he surplies the parts to go on the rear sets & it cures the problem perfectly.. he,s called lee from apache polishers from oldham in lancs nr manchester.. its well worth it i,ve not had to touch mine since havin it done on my 06 factory an it stops on a dime....

Why relocate the mastercylinder and bottle. Is engine heat an issue. I always thought that a simpler japanese design would work better. Well for now its working fine again. I'll see how long for though. Its been covered under warranty and still will be for another year so when its up I'll do something more permanant. I've had it in the shop 3 times this season and bled it once myself. Nothing ever seems to hold up. I guess on the + side of things I can get the bleeding done rather quickly from all the practice.

Yes wes, the heat off the engine + exhaust cook the brake fluid, the bike is under warranty for life as its a safety recall from aprilla, Yes it must be moved there is no other way around it.. the aprilla is the only bike ever to be designed by a computer an not a human that is why this fault has occured as it did,nt know about the heat issue & place the bottle + master cylinder were they are...

Just came across some real nice looking rearsets that Griff has for sale. They relocate the rear brake. I'm guessing this is the only permanent fix available? I live near Toronto, ontario. So I'd imagine by the time it gets here its gonna be pricey! If under warranty for life I might just stay that route... we'll see.

I hang a can of paint off my rear brake pedal while its parked, and agree, it keeps it relatively tight. Also have a CBR fireblade rear master cylinder to fit and see if it makes much difference. (not done yet, and not my idea so cant take any credit for it - thanks The Lone Ranger! :thumbup)

Check out this link there are lots of good pictures showing where the rear mastercylinder is installed when using rearsets from aprilia performance.co.uk. the reservoir bottle location has even been moved. very detailed. I'm gonna try to relocate my self 1st in a similar way. I figure it'll be a good winter project!
