newton-le-willows. in the rain
Hi again,iv'e heard rumors about a rear brake mod can anybody give me the details of how to do it,parts etc,the brake at the momment works at slow speeds but is crap at anything above 20mph.
The pads are ok and also the disk, also there is not any air in the system.

thank's........ozz

MAte get it pressure bled ever few months, cost next to nothing. I have heard that there is a bracket you can get that tilts it at an angle this way it self bleeds?

you can also try uprating both the caliper and the mastercyclinder, and bleed it the correct way, or if you really want a back brake that works, you could fit an ap rear caliper which is designed better.

Thank's for the replies, the only thing that realy bothers me is the mot time
as i rarely use the back brake, but if i have one i would like it to work.

What would I do about getting my bike back to get recall bits fitted? I might as well throw my back break away and save some weight!! I dont know how it would pass an MOT to be honest!

If Aprilia are admitting that there is a fault surely we can all get the bleeding done under warrenty? Can anyone confirm this?

Well my master cylinder has been relocated and the back brake still sucks. I am gonna try the pressure bleading route.

Badger is it worth posting the Aprilia recomendations in the how to section so that we don't loose them in the near future?

According to my local dealer there are no (definite) solutions for the brake and clutch problems. Aprilia told them there is nothing wrong with it :jack The problem with the rear brake has something to do with the heat coming from the engine. So relocating the master cylinder might help. The clutch problem comes from the clutch master cylinder at the handle bars :O

I have to bleed my clutch every 300 miles. Never use the rear brake, so no need for that :biggrin

I rarely use the b brake either, just occasionally in town and to make sure its not binding.
I remember stopping in a cloud of smoke on a kwaka I had, I looked back and lo and behold my brake disc was glowing bright orange as it had binded through lack of use!!!

My rear brake works fine the only time I use it is to get the bike to slide to set it up in a corner if I come in a little hot. I just rode the new Buell 1125 and that thing has no rear brake.

I just got off the phone with the dealer i bought my bike from in December. The bike has been back to them twice, once for rear brake once for clutch. Both times the issues were sorted I assume by bleeding although they did mention the master cylinder when they sorted the clutch.

I took the bike back in yesterday as both are gone again. The brake has been gone a while, as most people say I don't use it that much, usually when slow manouvering or holding the bike on a hill. The only time it's really useful is when the clutch goes as it's needed to hold the bike still :). Bit concerned about the clutch though, unable to get the bike into neutral with the engine running but it's inching forward with the clutch lever all the way back. I can see why the brake master cylinder comedy positioning would cause an issue, I'm not so clear as to why the clutch is affected. Any thoughts or wisdom on what the problem is?

Anyway words to that effect from the dealer, they've spoken to the local Aprilia dealer who's going to talk to Aprilia about it but it doesn't seem hopeful. Do I put up with it. If the bike were a weekend plaything it wouldn't be too hard to do but I plan to use it every day in the summer.

Guess I need to learn how to bleed. Starting to wish I'd bought an SP2 :) (joke).
