LOL i love living on a disused airfield ;) cant say i have ever had much success using the back brake to control wheelies tho.. just needs fine throttle control

LOL, Dont need it for the wheelies either as wolf says its all in the wrist!!. Your right i dont do to much town riding now as live in the countryside but did live in London for 22yrs and rode bikes round the city and still didnt use it. back brake are for girls!!! LOL LOL

im guessing you havent tried riding the mille in london yet then.. lol the problem is the tall first gear, i dare you to try riding at 10mph with the clutch out..... even 15mph is pushing your luck

working the clutch so much for town/city riding means you aint got much engine breaking (less you wanna stall all the time) and got no other choice than use the brakes, of which the back is the only sensible choice if you intend to remain in control

wish i didnt have to keep riding through norwich in rush hour, it takes the piss how many people crawl along at 5-10mph and block you from filtering past >_<

Hi All :thumbup

Forum newbie here! I have a 2004 RSV-R.

I've got a problem with my rear brake which has completely stopped working. I took it to a bike shop and the mechanic inspected the rear brake caliper, which was fine and the pads have plenty left on them. His diagnosis was that I need to replace the rear master cylinder.

Two questions:

1. Can anyone offer some good advice or tips on replacing the cylinder and bleeding the system?

2. Does anyone have a cylinder for sale? If so, what is the price?

Cheers,

Si.

Worth you joining the Aprilia performance forum. There is an in depth guide about how to bleed your rear caliper properly, just askn the question i'm sure somebody will point you in the right direction. It does involve removing your right hand can & following a three stage bleeding process hanging the caliper from differant angles to make sure all the air gets out.

Cheers Tricky. I'll take a look at that forum too.

I might get around to sorting my rear brake one day soon, maybe after this good riding weather has gone!

Si.

No, I don't plan on changing my sprockets. I've just bought a syringe & hose set from eBay and I'm going to buy a 2nd hand master cylinder as mine is ******.

I'll let you know how it goes!

There is a really useful guide by a bloke called KZmille who gives a detailed description non how to bleed the rear brake. I'm no techno so don't know why but apparently the reverse bleed technique is not so efficient.
There has a lot been written about the inefficiencey of the RSV / Tuono rear braking systen which is apparently due to the master cylinder being fitted horizontal & very close to the engine where the brake fluid gets very hot. Later models are fitted with a shield which helps but does not fully resolve the problem.
The best way to permanently resolve the situation ids to fit rear sets which in turn relocates the master cylinder away from the engine & mounts it in a verticle position.

15 - 42 sprockets do help with slow speed riding, pulling away, better acceleration. However I do find fuel consumption is compromised especially if you are an aggresive rider. I have 15 - 42 but will refit the 40T rear soon as I do struggle with 75miloes before the reserve light comes on. Ido have a PC & custom maps which may not help either.

Hi guys, several issues here.

My rear brake worked perfectly for the first 7000 miles from new. Couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. My brake now lasts about five prods after a bleed. Even at an Aprilia dealer! Any thoughts on that welcomed. My next move on the brake has to be rearsets. Nothing has worked so far, no matter how many dots I've thrown at it, but fist the rebuild - see new thread on Crash victim.....

15 - 42 sprocket mods make so much sense for smoother idling pace in town and general manners. An absolute must for the track. trickymick6 - if you ride so hard that you only get 75 miles to the reserve light it is unlikely that busting back to a 40 tooth will make any difference to your mpg as you will rarely be in top gear. You will however lose a lot of whallop from first and second gear. It's only likely to make a difference if you are touring. PS Thanks for the nod on KZmille

Welcome, dont use the wrong fluid i think its dot 5.1 that you need, but check with someone else first or get a haynes manual [well worth the money] ps dont listen to ken cos he is a drug mule [albeit a quick one] enjoy the ***** ooops i meant site . Big[ fed up with the weather] Jessie.
