Rear brake on my T been working a peach, then recently has started to sqeal, went to take it off to see whats what. Looks like 2 x 10 mm bolts heads, but 10mm spanner&socket seems too big by a smidgen and 3/8" no better. Anyone know what size bolts they are? Either that or they're seized and the bolt heads are made of cheese?:eek

they are 10mm and a loose fit
you gotta be careful with them as they are very shallow headed and the paddockstand arms can interfere with your sockets

Reply to Thread to 10mm caliper socket

Thanks, thought as much, if I can them out will replace with 'normal' non-cheese bolts:thumbup

Ended up removing these rear caliper '10mm' bolts, with a 3/8" socket gently tapped on. Replaced with some old Honda 12mm bolts of same length as original.

No/little copper grease despite recent service in June '11, hence the squeal I was getting.

Do I have a warranty claim as the bolts are crap and the rear brake appears not to have been lubed? is the owner able to do work under the warranty?

thanks for ant response

On the same subject rear brake - was at Hein Gericke Carlisle on sunday, another T owner told me he'd a non working rear brake and thought the master cylinder slung under the r/hand side of the engine was to blame, as it gets too hot. He said he made sort of heat shield. Is this right? Cheers

Well that is one of the theories,.....I cant see a heat shield doing much though.

Consensus of opinion is the master cylinder is designed to work vertically not horizontally hence why its so hard to bleed and get it to work properly.

Thats why when you move it to sit vertical, like wi a set of rearsets, it miraculously works.

As well as the T, I also have a Ape Caponord which has the same master cylinder but is located vertically, just behind your right heel, and the rear brake is a belter.

There is already a wee guard below the master as it is, as standard, ah dinnae believe heat, while exists, is the issue.
