Hi guys you gave me something to do today whilst it was raining I stripped the throttle off and made a quick action out of the original.
I suppose it took a couple of hours.

Obviously first strip bar end off and take throttle off and then I will try and list the photos in order of the way I did it.

I used 2.5 mm brass strip which I bought from B&Q which is normally next to the ally mesh used for oil and rad covers.

I had to file the width down slightly so it cleared the body.


Wrap the strip round a socket to make it round cut it to fit over the body drill 2.5 holes in 3 places fit self tapping screws then aradite rapid all in place.

Grind all excess off when dry fit into body with grease and check it is free running I had to take the dust cover off the return cable to get the clearance.

Reassemble and adjust cables at throttle bodies and fine tune at the bars and you will be able to see the amount of throttle to full in the pictures.

Sounds easy doesnt it.

Alot better than £120 and even more work to fit but least you dont have to change the cables:thumbup
 
did the same thing with my zx6r but with plastic tubing from under the sink like drain pipe..then just glued it in place worked a treat..wasnt sur ethe mille tube was the same guess im gona take mine off n do it now...:thumbup

i've just bought the bits and in between rain showers, darkness, feeding kids & going out i removed the cable housing but couldn't undo the bar ends.
the allen screw just spins around with the bar end. im rushing around at the moment but how do you get the bar end off? i didn't have the strength to hold it still and unscrew even with mechanic gloves on.

i know its a dodo question but a bit of a clue will help me save some time in the morning sussing it out.

enjoy your sat night, im only going out 'cos the missus wants to celebrate her bday, i'd rather be spannering the ape! :thumbup

If you have the new type bar ends then the best way to get them out is by whacking the allen key with a soft face hammer.

Failing that, use an impact driver.

For the old type, just grip the bar end weight with some soft jawed grips and undo the bolt.

I had the same problem the allen bolt should turn with inside the bar end I had to grip the bar end then turn the allen bolt it came out.:thumbup
The reason it happens is because the rubber inside the bar end had lost its grip so I spaced it out with a washer and reassembled it because before that the bar end would turn round.
Now all happy days with R & G bar ends as well:biggrin
 
Nice "how to" :thumbup never had one apart before but the SV needs this mod too, the "official" cure is a throttle tube off an R1 or R6 but hey , you get so much more satisfaction beating the system and this way it is adjustable as to where the faster action gets called.

Can see 2 bikes getting this treatment next week.

through a thumping hangover i carried out this mod yesterday, ill take it out for a ride this morning when the frost melts.

it's quite a simple mod but here's a few additional tips

-to get bar ends off if they just rotate, wrap duck tape around the bar end 3-4 times and then use some grips on them and the allen key. i couldn't get enough purchase just using a cloth to protect them.

-to file down the width of the brass strip i bent the strip first then spent 10 minds rubbing it on some P80 wet & dry. it needs to be exactly the width of the throttle run as tolerances are very tight.

- be careful not to cut the brass too short as you may have to expand it a little to fit over throttle run and then it comes up short.

- i didn't need to drill/ self tap mine to glue as it was such a tight fit i'm confident it will stay in place with the araldite rapid.

- because the tolerances are tight i had to file the throttle housing a little to get a smooth run as the brass strip rubbed slightly causing none return. you will need some small files for this.

- when assembling and adjusting cables make sure the throttle snaps back when turning bars lock to lock and that idle does not increase as cables get pulled when turning.

mine feels nice and smooth now and i'm looking forward to a blast. throttle twist range feels much better. the only problem i could imagine would be if on really hot days the brass expanded and stated to rub on the housing?
all i'd have to do though is get out the files again.
mind you that's much better than spending £130+ buying a QAT:thumbup

right i went out for a ride this afternoon, all works fine.

throttle range is reduced and bike now has more urgency and feels faster.
i can go from zero to max throttle in one twist of the wrist
it's much better than before, i wouldn't say this mod gives a severe 'quick' action throttle just a more natural one.
It is how it should be on a sports bike in the first place.
i only went for a 20 min ride and didn't cane it but it took very little time to get used to.

i thoroughly recommend this mod :thumbup

FYI - if you want a quicker throttle Busters are selling Robby Moto ones for £100 now, a saving of £20 - 50 over normal retail.
 
Done mine to and made new rad and oil cooler guards just need a service on shims now and all done for the sun:doug
 
Guys, I have a 06 Factory and was wondering if the quick action throttle mod can be done. I am having trouble just how this mod changes the throttle action.

this mod increases the diameter of the tube that the throttle cable attaches to on the handlebar. therefore less twist is required to turn to max throttle.

i found that on my '02 bike it was difficult for me to open the throttle fully so i was not getting max power.

not sure if there is sufficient clearance on a later rsv to do this mod, if you are having the same probs as me you could always buy a dedicated QAT if you dont want to try this mod (see my previous comment)

Just done this mod and i'm well chuffed with it .
Makes the bike feel a lot quicker, just got to keep eye out as i keep bouncing off the limiter.

Is it as easy as it looks?? Do you leave the screws in once the glue has set or take them out ?
