Quick action throttle

A

aPeMunky

on my 2002 rsvr i never seem to hit the stop or twist it fast enough without bending my whole arm around the bar, its only a 90 degree twist but it feels way too far for me to easily do without repositioning hand. i've adjusted cables but no joy.

i've searched on here and there are a couple of mentions of a QAT but it looks like i could be spending big bucks. The cheapest ive found is an RME for £120 with robbi moto, yoyodyne coming in at upwards of £150 with cables.... yikes!

has anyone got any recommendations? or quick fixes, i know for some suzukis you could but a £30 clip to extend the cam the cable rests on, has anyone modified this for a rsv?

i thought about the 'cable tie & superglue' mod but it scared me a bit at the though of it going wrong at speed (but 5p is very cheap compared to £150!)

do the rest of you feel that there is excessive twist on the throttle?

thoughts welcomed, anyone selling a 2nd hand one?
cheers

excessive twist? certainly not, mine already feels like a quick action, i've normally hit the limiter before i've got a chance to pin it to the stop, only on trackdays i've ever reached the stop and thats only on the start/finish straight!

I have made a few for different bikes I have had.
Its a bit fiddly to do but buy some brass strip the width of your cable run form it around a socket to make it round then fit it over where the cable runs 2 thicknesses if you want really quick action then with it in place drill and pin it to the run ( I normally use a ally peg then araldite the unit together)
then refit the unit make sure that it operates freely and then adjust the cables costs about £10.:devious
All you are doing is increasing the diameter of the action so increasing the travel that you get.
And yes it does make it feel like 10% faster because you actually open the throttle more than you would normally.:biggrin
I did purchase a quick action one that came with 3 different cams depending on how quick you wanted it but that cost £120 so did the mod myself and sold that on E bay but the quick action complete unit did not look nice on the bike the way I just described keeps the bike looking orginal.:thumbup

Sounds like a good mod Mick, perhaps it's your turn to do a 'How to Guide' for the guys?

I find that the twist on the throttle has way too much travel for me and was browsing Ebay for QAT's, perhaps Mick would be so kind as to do a guide so I can try the £10 route first.

I will have a go on the mille and post pictures when doing it but you would not believe the difference it makes :biggrinspecially if you suffer from bad wrists.:thumbup

Hey

That sounds GREAT my friend, I broke my scaphoid almost 2 years ago and the quick action would help HUGE!! :thumbup:thumbup

However, a step by step quide and pics would be much appreciated for mechanical ******* like myself.

Cheers Pete

Looking forward to this Mick, I almost tie myself in knots when wrenching the throttle round to max. LOL
