problem with clutch

Did you loctite the pin when fitting the new levers? If not then it should come out easy (assuming the grub screw has been undone).

And the likelihood is that youll have to wind the pin in by the sounds of it

Getting the adjustment properly right takes some fannying around with so make sure you carry a 1.5mm allen key and smqll screwdriber around wih you for a while

Ps wind the pin in gradually before you try it. Im sure winding mine straight in is what fubarred the master cylinder (which ive just replaced)

I reckon i must have bled and adjusted mine about 5 times in the last fortnight. Its tricky. Giz a call tpnight if to want to discuss

When you open the bleed nipple the fluid should just trickle out.

Res cap off and top up untill clean fluid is coming out.

Pump the clutch afew times and all should be well .

Still no clutch ? then slacken grub screw and wind out the pin in half turns . if not right wind in but be wary of going too far.

OK

I carefully bled the clutch from fluid ressy on bars through bleed nipple on slave and it was indeed full of air.

Went to ride it again today (48 hours later) and it was full of ******* air again!

I am at a loss

You know the brass cone ... the one with the demon grub screw? ... that just pops through the rubber gator on the master cylinder ... is that correct?

Maybe bleeding it backwards from slave to ressy would be better?

How many ? can I get in one post?

Who knows?

Can anybody help?

Or advise as to where I am going wrong?

Went out again and at 47 miles had to head back to home as the clutch action was fading

The problem seems to be that the rubber gator that the brass cone + nasty grub screw pokes through; it horribly split.

Question now is can I get it sorted by next weekend?

I'll ring Griff tomorrow.

The problem is with the top end then (split gaitor) .

If all is well at the slave, new seal etc.

You should be able to get a seal kit for top end, I did one a couple of months on my DR ........good as new.

What people do when they have problems with the brakes is they overlook the top end where the lever is .

There is a piston.circlip and rubber gaitor.

I`ve said this before on other forums......... If you live near some other member then get round and help a fellow member . ( FREE )

Sorry Newelly I live too far away, by the time I get to you I would have to get back.

Griff told me to wind the pin in ... to ensire clearance twixt end and master piston

Which I did ... settling on about (from original) 2 turns in ... 2 turns left if I need them

I bleeeeded the **** out of it again.

Took it for a hoon ... and it seemed ... ok?

For what it's worth surely the way to get air out of a vertical pipe is to take the cap of the ressy, connect a pipe to the nipple on the slave at the bottom ... and pump fluid in from the bottom = bubbles out the top?

I may get another ride before the weekend but that really will determine if I venture more than a spit from home let alone into Welsh Wales

There must be a little play between the pin and the piston otherwise there will be constant pressure on the clutch. (top end)

I am not sure but someone had a similar problem on the other site ??

Nob the happy ending is that he went fishing with his dog on the weekend so Newelly has a big smile on his face now.
Well when I say he went fishing with his dog I don't think he used the dog as bait but knowing the Newelly man and his penchant for Camo gear etc anythings possible and I have heard tales where dogs have been used as Shark Bait.

Thinking more about it now I'm fearing for the safety of Harvey now and might have to send a report in to the RSPCA just to have a check.

Clutch all better. The problem was the way I was bleeding it ... like a **** I was relaeasing the lever before fully tightening beed nipple. You have to go at it like you are milking a coo

Harvey is fine by the way ... he likes fishing especially when he discovered I occasionally use Spam!

He's also nicked my other (de reguer) shortsView attachment 1097

welly, thought yer were an engineer.

A jist made a public fud of masel again.

when I`m bleeding the brakes etc. I just stick my finger over the nipple instead of tightening and loosening. When I think it`s right I nip up with the spanner.

You will need a bit of soapy water to wash hands before touching anything and for splashing around the bleed nippleand paintwork.
