has anyone else had this problem? just had new tyres fitted to my wheels, changed from a 180 to a 190 and when i've put the wheels back on, the chain is just slightly touching the side of the tyre:eek: what the ****?

please some one tell me it's an easy fix without going back to a 180, lol.

When I changed from Pirelli to Dunlop I had the same problem !!.

Both tyre 190/50's , so all I did was run the dunlop at 38 psi (the Pirelli ran at 36) and that seems to have cured the problem - Probably not the correct way to do it but it works for me :)

Noboby has yet come up with an explanation as to why this happens as far as i know. Some bike will happily run 190/50 ' s with no chain clearance issues and some won't.

My previous 2002 Mille ran 190/50 michelin pilots with no chain clearance problems. My current 2002 Mille R won't, it' will only run 180/55. Both bikes had exactly the same DID chain and renthal sprockets and all alignments were spot on so :dunno

The only thing i can think of is the OZ wheel fitted to the Mille R has a slightly different sprocket offset than the Brembo wheels as fitted to a standard Mille

Yep my Dunlop Sportmax had the same problem, now got Bridgstone 16s. Better tyre all round and no rubbing, sorted.

Im running bridgestone bt16's 190/55 on OZ's. (<2004 RSV)
It is just clearing the chain.

My 2001 RSV-R with OZ wheels and DID chain has got a 190/55 Pirelli diablo corsa III fitted with about 7mm clearance from the chain...
Strange that there is a variation in manufactures, you'd think 190mm actually means one hundred and ninety millimetres!! :dunno

I have same problem i had a mich pilot power 190 and it was fine but put new one on same pilot power ant it hiting the chain but bouth the same make:dunno

Thats just strange aint it!

Im running michelin pilots (190) and not had a problem, now im gonna keep a closer eye on this issue when getting new tyres fitted.

Hard to compare anything if you are not sure that everybody has aligned their rearwheel in the same way.

I think the difference between oz & brembo wheels is the width
pretty sure 1 is 5.5 & other is 6.0 something like that

Later milles have differenct offset to earlier ones with the rear sprocket i believe if they've been mixed up at supplier

I run a 190/55 bridgestone bt002 clears easily

I'm running a 190/55 Pilot Sport ( not my choice, that's what was fitted just before I bought it ) on a 2003 Mille and the chain just clears the tyre. And I mean JUST

My 190/55 dunlop qualifier 2 rub on the chain just gone keep my eye how much it wears . great tyres though .

Whats a little rubbing between friends:devious

I've just had the same problem. Fitted the new Dunlop Qualifier 2's before a big euro trip to my 2006 RSV FACTORY

190/55 at the rear. Fine for 2500miles until I needed to adjust my chain at which point a noticed how much of the side wall it had chomped up. What age and condition is your chain in?

same problem this is my first rsv 03 model on 05 reg plate and its making me think a little if i should have stuck with my bussa its pilot power 190 50 by 17s and dont want to buy a new tyre just to have chunks rubbed out on it and it will look good if i ever get stoped by the cops and they spot the rubbing they will put the bike off the road and i see 180s can be used but i hate that they are mixing it up by saying 190 by 55 or 180 by 55 must be a big problem got to be a spacer error from aprilia thats what i think and for only having the bike a week its making me want to sell it and get a gixer i do wanna try and love the rsv but its just never had a problem with chains rubbing tyres before confused for sure lol help me

check the front sprocket is the correct way round.. ....one side of it is longer....that should be engine side.. ...sounds daft but its been done

i will have a look at that but im thinking its the original chain just want to ride it without the worry

i think the manufacturer tolerance of 5% is to much. My last tyre was a Dunlop Qualifier 190/50 and measured 200mm. I had to run the wheelk alignment out a long way because it was taking chunks from the tyre. Now i have a Dunlop Gp racer 190/60 (fancied trying out the profile and was cheap on ebay) like its affect on handling but not its cold performance. that tyre measures 186mm and doesn't rub the chain with the wheels aligned properly.

Going for the 190/55 next. I was always a bridgestone man before. any opinions on the bt016 on the ape

never had a problem with 190/50 nor 55. dunlop qualifiers, 1 and 2. but then again i have brembo wheels on my bikes...

Got Dunlops on mine and also have the same problem, could be the profile of the tyre as although the size is the same for each manufacturer the profile of the tyre is slightly different.
