Power (lack of) problem breakthrough?

T

TinMan

Finally last night I got to ride my mates 2002 mille, just to see if I was right in thinking if my 2003 one was underpowered. The result being, bloody hell yes! Down the bottom of the rev range there doesnt really seem much difference, although his did seem alot more responsive, but the main difference was at about 9000, his just seemed to find more power, whereas mine is running out of puff by then. :dunno
His rsv is also standard with restrictors bar the can.

Now I noticed 2 things what might be causing this, one is I thought mine had slightly less throttle travel, I will try and get under the tank at the weekend to see if the butterfly valved in the throttle bodies are opening up all the way

The other, is that when we swapped back over, I noticed his dipped beam isnt automatically on, he has a switch, whereas mine is on permantley. I thought this was just standard as like Ducati 916's etc, but now am thinking mine could be an import, and horrifically I French one....... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :puke

Is there any obvious way of telling if it is an import, I cant see anything on the log book saying it is. also any tips on setting up the throttle cables incase its that would be helpful too!

Cheers

under the riders seat mate should be a ID sticker that will tell you what country its from or for :thumbup

remove the rider seat and there should be a sticker that says where the bike was from ie there will be a dot in the uk box

with the lights on all the time it may not be a import as my 03 rsv has no switch and its a full uk bike

Get Griff to take a look for you, trust me it'll be well worth the trip up to Tamworth. :doug

yours could be a french import, is it left hand ride. if so its from france :devious

have you checked the airbox under the filter..the restrictor plate could still be there?

Ok, bad news for me. Looked at the sticker, and the letter A box has a dot in it, and so does the EU box, I'm guessing its French, I'm gonna go cry in a darkened corner now :bawling
Also looked at the butterfly valves, dont quite reach 90 degs but assuming that is normal? Anyway, back to the crying ......

If its a french one

It will be restricted with an airfilter bung and the blue green wire not cut on the ECU.

look at this

http://www.geocities.com/sl_mille/derestrict.html

If its the new shape than i belive that it is restricted by the throttle not opening wide . Easy fix though again.

Is the bike registered in the UK.

cant understand anyone wanting to import a bike from France they are usually more expensive and restricted ??

I actually agree with Tim on this one. :thumbup

(Us Brits dump all our **** in France, don't we Tim, mate?) :nana

The price of bikes cars here are unfuckingbelievable.

For me to get a 2004 new shape RSV here I would have to pay 7K plus euros.

ps but saying that my 6 bedroom house cost me 80K to build and its got a sea view lol

Well the bike has hooked air unit on it, and it also has the wire snipped. It's a 2003 model, with the "newer" shape seat unit. According to the log book it was first reigstered here in the uk, but as said the dot is on the EU box.
So if I've got the airfilter sorted, and the wire is cut, then what else can it be causing such a massive loss of power? The throttle body valves dont quite reach 90degs but cant see the little movement it requires to get that far making much, if any difference. If however it is, how would I change that? Its startin to do my nut now!
Cheers for the help lads

Have you checked that the headers haven't been restricted, may be worth taking the exhaust system off and checking?

What Eprom have you got fitted, may be time to get a DrRossi special mate?

PS. The TB butterflies don't go vertical, well almost!!

Eprom chip, I believe was *56, cant remember but I think it was the standard one as I check it out at the time. What should I look for in the headers, I'm assuming some washers welded the start of each one? I'll try the headers at the weekend, if not will order a chip.

I have a fuel can. Well, at at least thats what the box was that the standard one was given to me in so assume it is as there isnt a logo on it

When you connect the two wires behind the cover just by your right knee as your sat on the bike, turn the ignition on what does the dash say?

I'm wondering if your TB sensor is not set up correctly?

Lastly while my memory is on track, mine ran ***** when I first bought it and I found **** loads of water in the bottom of the fuel tank, traced this to blocked fuel tank breathers.

I'm pretty sure there's no difference between UK and french bikes on pre new shape RSV's as the restrictions were put in place to conform to french legislation. As long as the bike's had it's air restictor removed, exhaust can replaced and wire snip carried then all should be well.

Are both bike's using the same gearing? If your bike is running standard gearing then it will feel much less reponsive than a bike that's running 16/44 or 15/42 gearing?

very good point.

Ok here we go.
There is a extra restriction on the 78kw or HP bikes.

18 APR0118885 BUSH - POWER 78 KW; "R"ACING GP1 LIMITED ED.VERSION

It prevents the valves to open completely.
Easy fix, remove srew and voila ! :devious

**** what am I doing up so early :confused
