Had my suspension fettled by an expert, nice chap and sure he did a great job, but I don't like it. So going to set it back to standard. On the rear shock rebound is adjusted by the lower ring and is set 18 clicks from fully closed. Closed is clockwise. Looking down on the shock and winding fully clockwise, the ring runs out of clicks but keeps turning. Is this fully closed. Turning anti clockwise and eventually you run out of clicks cos the ring stops turning and that's fully open!? Seems the wrong way round.
Am thinking too much?

Simon

No, clockwise is looking up from ground at shock, so you opening it, screw it up til it stops n back it down again.

righty tighty, lefty loosy, doesnt matter where your looking from!

Unless you have a left hand thread sprocket nut :thumbup

There was a thread that ran for pages and pages on a local forum because a guy couldn't get his sprocket nut off. Even with a three foot lever and a lump o wood through the rear wheel :lol

Why not just take the bike back and have him fettle some more? Who did you use, need mine sorting.

The mountain roads are usually smooth as, it's the bumpy fekkas getting there that's the issue!!

dunno what mountain roads you ride? mine are like bumpy as! ive had to add grippers just to stay in the seat lol
whats the bike doing under you?

The rear is very sensitive, seems to transmit every little bump which limits your speed at times. I'm thinking rebound needs adding. Making the spring shorter/tighter so it reaches where it need to reach and recovers before the next thump. It also goes whoah whoah whoah when exiting corners with enthusiasm. Might have a play with the TC to see if that's cutting in surreptitiously.

start with some sag, do you know how t measure for sag? id back the rear spring off a bit, say 2-3 full turns, that equals 2-3mm then add rebound so that you dont get bounce back, youll want it quick so its ready for the next bump, comp is there to stop the rear sqwatting too much and to control the rate of return

when you whoa whoa, does that mean it runs wide? if so you need to lower the front, drop the forks say 2 rings, im assuming your picking up the throttle mid corner?
your not getting enough weight to the rear when exiting the corner, as it to stiff!

front sag is acheived by using the preload and the rear is on the spring

im sure you know suspension works best @ mid stroke

the TC wont be causing that feeling, the trick with TC is to get it where it just cuts in, then add one more, so you can nearly ride through the corner and pin it on the way out

i have my wheelie control at it lowest setting, and TC at 4, i get very small twitches as i pin it!

Thanks for the info 4vr, not been near the pc since Friday. Liberating stuff! Spent all day Saturday at Touring Cars, dull, but I got a cheap ticket so thought I'd give them a go.
Then yesterday went for a 200+ mile 7 bike blast on twisty A and B roads, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear mainly. Had backed off the TC to 3 and the bike is much better exiting corners. Even popping small wheelies on the way out. Felt like a God.
Will get the sag sorted before I twiddle. Once I've finished squaring off this rear tyre :cheers

I tried 4vr`s settings by Dave moss, definitely the best I have tried and it's staying at that. Thanks to 4vr for that.:cheers

I said rebound when I was thinking preload.

Checked the sag, it was 40mm at the rear. I understand it should be nearer 20-22mm. Thoughts and pontifications please?

ok so adding more turns to the spring will decrease the sag! your best of getting a base measurement, thats for the static sag, then get all your gear on, get on the bike and get your buddy to measure again, then youll know what your sag is at,

what your weight buddy?

There was 10mm difference between bike with wheels off the ground to wheels on the ground and another 30mm with me sat on it. I weigh about 14/5 plus kit.

3 or 4 full turns on the spring should give you the correct sag.
cheers
