Dan, someone further down the thread said it's the tip over switch. I've seen these mentioned on here before but my bike doesn't have one there. The author of the answer says it 'should' be OK mounted elsewhere, as long as it's upright - makes sense doesn't it.

I know and I have also seem them called the solenoid, which personally i thought was further back.

I will get that bloody battery in somehow.

Anyone?????

Dan, that part you are refering to in the picture in that thread is 100% definately the tip over switch m8.

Thank god you are on tonight mate! lol

What are the consequencies of me moving the switch as long as its solid.

I am trying to get a YTX 14 battery in a YTX 12 standard housing on an 04 RSV.

It doesn't matter a jot where the actual switch is located ( within reason, see point No.3 below ) , as long as its :-

1 ) Solidly mounted as you already said.

2 ) The wires connect up fine and are not stretched.

3 ) The tip over switch is mounted up the right way. Look on the side of it on the rubber shroud, there is an "arrow" that should point up. You can move the switch elsewhere, but this arrow should still point straight upwards for the switch to work correctly. Not sideways or at an angle, but straight up.

You will most probably get away with some degree of angle on the mounting of the switch and shroud, but it might cause hassles, I can't say and you wont know until you try it out. Personally I would stick with having it point straight up in the air, wherever you move it to.

Nice one that what I thought. I don't suppose you have come across any peeps ramming a YTX 14 battery in the standard YTX 12 slot. I am sure it will go in I am just worried about it catching the seat underneath.

I intend to do away with the standard clip and use industrial strength velcro. I am sure I can get this to work?

I've got a YTX14 in mine, although the battery box dimensions may well be different between mine, an early model RSV and your later one, not sure.

I did away with the clip, the battery has a big square of velcro on the bottom and the side and it sits solid in there, has done for years.

Glad you said that because that the exact route I am going down.

I will try tomorrow just to ensure it doesn't catch my fat arse on the seat lol
