hi guys,

wonder if you know what the hell's just happened?
I started my bike this morning and let it warm up for a few minutes, then
backed it out into the road, gave it a tiny blip of the throttle and it the
revs went to the limiter and would not drop, no matter what i did with the
twist grip, then turned it off with the key.

started it again, and full revs again. stopped it and tried again, now its back to normal
but the clocks have re-set themselves.

I really dont want to ride it now, if that happened 30 seconds later i would have crashed

any ideas?????????????????

If that had happed whilst riding the kill switch would be useful.

Check the throttle is free and the cable not snagged.

There is another thread on here lately of the throttle tube/cable sticking after not being touch for a while.

Personally twist grip off and clean the bar and inside and then replace.......no lube etc, no need.

Others may think different and apply grease etc. but this can solidify and collect dirt and make for a rough twist .
wearing gloves and you won`t feel it.

but if his clocks have reset would that not suggest an ECU or electrical fault as well? deffinetly grease the cables. But there maybe something more sinister happening.

Give Griff a call.

is it the throttle cables that control the amount of fuel or do they just send a signal to the efi?

it may seem like a silly question but i dont really want to test it on the road if i cant control it with the throttle, and it could spit me off into a hedge or worse.

They control the revs so I would say they have an input but ECU should be ECU mainly.

As ****** as it is... I'm really glad that it didn't happen whilst out and away from the castle. I suck donkey huevos at mechanics and even worse at electrics. Methinks that Griff is the man with the plan here today.

Swordfish, nae effin wonder yer don't want to ride it.

That's a big bit scary!!!

fwiw it sounds electrical to me, there are two cables from the throttle grip one should open the t/b and the other should close them.
So I don't think it could be a sticky cable.

hi all, thanks for the suggestions, but ive only gone and fugin fixed it!

so heres some info so you can all check yours:

ther are 2 cables under the twist grip as aldo says (you probably all know this but bare with me)
they both have a locking nut on (about 12mm), one of the bolts had vibrated off and slid
down the cable to just in front of the head stock, where it had got lodged trapping one of the cables.
when i reversed off the drive and turned to right lock, the cable had nowhere to go and opened
the throttle and in by bleary eyed early morning state I hadnt noticed the turning bit.

so its a result!

Happy days, its usualy summat simple. Nice one.

ah bet yer awe awa tae check oot yours noo aren,t ye..

soonds like another symptom o vibey Ts tae add tae the list o awe the bitties that fa' aff noo an again.
