PLEASE Help, RSVR Cutting ou

Hi guys,
I am new to this group. I have a 07RSVR and every time I am riding along an pull the clutch in the revs drop really low and the bike cuts out. It is ok to start with but then after a couple of mins it starts happening. I only just nursed it back home from work and had to keep the revs up all the way. It doesn't sound quite right when coming off the power either.
I have bled the clutch and slave clutch cylinder and cant see that the wiring from the clutch lever is out at all.
Has anyone got any suggestions to what is wrong or what I need to do ?

Any help would be great.

Thanks
Rich

One possible cause is the IACV (idle air control valve) sticking. Raise the tank, remembering to first dis the electrics at the connector aft of the swivel. Remove the top of the airbox, then look at the IACV (RH side of the airbox base). Switch on the ignition and you should see/hear the valve moving, controlled by the stepper motor below. Give it a short blast of brake cleaner or similar, or, if you're brave disassemble the whole thing and check it over. The two air pipes underneath (the corrugated ones) can be difficult to remove/replace though.

Sorry - don't know. I believe the gen 1 has an idle adjustment knob (the old fashioned throttle stop I guess) - so I would imagine the answer to your question is probably 'no'. If you want a definitive answer, call the guys at Home - Aprilia Performance - they're really helpful and there's nothing about Aprilia they don't know . .

Thanks for the advice,, I will crack on with that tomorrow eve and see how I get on.,

Also while the tank is up, check the two thin rubber tubes for breaks or splits on the l/h side under the airbox.

If that lot checks out....check your battery voltage....when the stator or reg fails, the voltage drop causes the bike to stutter and cut out.

Sorry to be a pain, what electrics need to be disconnected aft of swivel please ?

It's the feed to the pump. With the saddle removed (obviously), stand on the LH side of the bike and CAREFULLY lift the front of the tank. You'll see the wiring near the LH side frame tube behind the swivel begin to move as it gets pulled by the lifting tank. Dis at the white(ish) connector. Reason is that if you didn't, you risk damaging it by overstretching.

Soooo, thanks for the help.
Did what you guys suggested and the switch in the air box moves and gave it blast with some brake cleaner. So don't think that it is the cause. It move down a few mm when I turned the ignition on.
Do you have any suggestions as I cant get it to a garage as I think it will cut out again?

Hmmm. Still think your problem lies somewhere in the IACV function. You need to go to an Aprilia expert. You said that the engine always restarts if it stalls - so go for it . . !

Well I can't get in until Sept at the garage. Just a quick question about the idle valve. Should move a couple of mm when switched on? Also would after market exhausts without re mapping make it cut out ?

With the top of the airbox off, you should be able to look down the tube in the base of the airbox and see the iac valve actually move up and down during the start cycle.

Aftermarket cans or map variant makes no difference.

Cheers yeah I just wanted to make sure it was the correct amount of movement. its all clean. Just to note though I put the OEM cans on and the problem has gone. Strange????

The oe cans will provide a little more back pressure.
So could possibly be a mixture issue?
The iac allows/restricts air (bit like a conventional choke?)
Make sure it's working ok.
Might be stating the (bleedin) obvious here, but it may be worth giving Griff a call and talk it by him?

This is how mine started, it started to spit flames on the over run, stator failed, make sure you definitely have a good battery and its charging, I only was getting 12.2v at 4000rpm and its miss fired and cut out at the lights etc

cheers batt is at 14 and over at 4000 so all good there and its only a year old. Want to get rid of the datatool alarm as it seems like a bit of a waste really. No miss fire now with OEM cans so think that could have been the root of the prob?? Ill see what happens tomorrow when I take it to work

check vacuum hoses

If the other suggestions don't work check the small rubber vacuum hoses on the left side. One of them may have a small hole or tear. I had a problem similar to yours and the hose replacement did the trick. Look for really small black hoses - you may need to raise the tank to find them.

asking on behalf of my friend.. his bike keep cutting out the engine.. once he pulled clutch in.. but after he cranked it back.. idle was fine.. start moving.. pulled in clutch at the junction/traffic light/to stop.. engine cut out.. why this happens? 1 way valve broken? stepper motor? his bike is rsvr 2004

Sounds like the vacuum hose problem

- I haven't been on the forum for a long time. It sounds like you could be experiencing a common problem that's easy to fix. There are a set of very small black vacuum hoses located on the upper left side of the engine. One may have a small split. This will cause the problem you discribe. You can find replacements at hobby shops, a good Aprilia dealer, or you can repair the hose with flexible rubber tape. The hoses are really small and it only takes a tiny leak but a lot of the older models' hoses developed a sizable tear in one of the hoses. Fix this and you may be good to go. I had this happen on my 2007.5 Tuono. Has not happened on my 2009 RSV.
