High peak
Firstly I have to keep my bike outside fully covered up and out of the weather sort of.i did a few short journeys on it locally and it started struggling to start then after about 4 cold days, came to it and wouldn't start at all so I charged the battery, brought it back to life.refitted the battery and it started instantly better than any time since I've owned it.so all is good, then???

Let it sit again for just over a week due to rain and that, started it again for a ride out and all was fine, all day spot on,so parked it back up,then left another week and went to my local gym and fuel statio and these 2 times it sounded like it struggled to start, then today I started it and it struggled and turned it off ,then started it up again and it fired instantly.so went out on it for a really fast ride, stopped for 15 then turned key and tried to start an nothing then clocks went off totally, ended up having to jump it off a car and it fired up instantly so rode home, turned it off tried restarting and it made a funny noise like when you put it in gear and clocks went off again and nothing????????

What the hell can it be,please can anybody help,I thought sprag clutch but surely the clocks wouldn't go off,I tried the battery voltage on screen before it went off and it showed 12.5 with engine off and nothing on. it started instantly off the car aswell and showed 14.1 with everything off when the jump leads attached

I was thinking of a better battery and a better solenoid, does anybody know which solenoid is best ?

You need to keep the battery charged up to the max or the big ole engine trying to turn over puts strain on the sprag clutch, which will knacker it up.

I know theres just no way of getting round this unless I disconnect the battery and optimate it until I ride it.then I've got to fit it everytime.it feels like I haven't got the facilities to own a Mille because I have no garage.

Sounds like a loose battery connection or loose earth, as said you need to keep the battery topped up, can you park the bike near to the house :dunno If so fit a perminent optimate plug to the battery which hangs out the side of the bike or keep under the seat hump then all you need to do is run an optimate extension from inside the house to the bike.

All I can tell you is a Sprag clutch failier is a proper pain in the ***, I speak from experience ! and it can lead to more serious problems, if you can keep ya bike at a mates house where it can be on charge it will be worth the drive everytime to go for a ride.

Yamaha part number for 150amp solenoid is 3UF-81940-00-00 or 4KD-81940-00. They are about £25 at Wemoto. Someone said they are about £20 at some online scooter shop I think.

It's worth speaking to Wes (Killaprilla) about his uprated solenoid/starter leads too,

Thanks for all your help,I really don't know how I can have the up keep on this it seems so hard just to get it to start,I'm going to have to get the better battery and a new starter solenoid for a start,I understand with the optimate but there no way of doing that,I will start my button and work my way up,even if it means doin some sort of quick release seat so the battery is easy to take off and on and optimate it inside

If you need a new battery these are great, not had mine on the optimate for 2 weeks & it spun up perfect this morning & I've got a datatool alarm which used to drain my old battery at an alarming rate :biggrin

It's fairly easy to find quick release seat pins for the rsvr. A few people have made them, have a word with redratbike I think he made some for sale a little while ago. Expect to pay about £12 a pair from what I recall.
