Sorry pomp, they are different mate. The 98-00 seat goes to a point at the back, whereas the 01-03 has a wider edge along the back.

My advice is try it bud if you can!! Reason being, I (unknowingly) had an '02 seat on my '00 model which worked!! It didn't fit as snugly as the correct one would've but it was secure nonetheless bud..............:thumbup

Can't try it unfortunately as it's off fleabay and not going to take the risk. There is another for the 02 but was gonna try the other as it's a little cheaper but I'll have to dig a little deeper:angry

I think the academic answer is, they will both fit the other bikes i.e. a 98-00 seat will fit a later bike and vice-versa, as the seat lock and mount points on the subframe (if it has a 2-person subframe :dowhat), and where it "slots" under the rear fairing, are all in the same place.
I know this because my old Mille (99) came with a seat which fitted, but for love nor money, I couldn't work out why the renntec grabrail wouldn't fit with it :angry Turns out that I had the later seat, and as someone else has pointed out, the profile of the earlier seat is much more pointed, whereas the later one has a large ridge down the centre of it, and is much wider at the back (hence why it wouldn't fit with the narrower profiled renntec, designed for a narrower seat)!
