Perplexing questions...!

Ok, where do I start....Not had my RSVR long so a pile of daft questions need to be answered.
1. What's the usual/average range of a full tank to reserve light (riding enthusiastically!) I seem to be getting around 80miles at present
2. Anyone experienced some minor backfiring from one can (standard) from high revs?
3. Do RSV's run any better on superunleaded i.e. 97 octane
4. I know the speedo is linked to the back wheel....is it normal for the readout to be delayed i.e. bike pulled up to standstill at lights & speedo counts down from say 9,4,3 to 0.
5. finally the biggie......any comments on best tyres for fast road riding; the bike came with Pirelli Diablo corsa's on which appear to offer good grip, just wondering if other manufacturers are any good.
Mucho thanks for any comments!!:biggrin

1 100 plus miles before light comes on, if you are really hooning you could be as low but doubt it

2 Are they standard cans, if not has Map 2 been done on the bike

3 No

4 Normal

5 How fast is the question, if you want to really go for it then S/C Pro's with SC1 front and SC2 rear, let them heat up and take note in the wet they are just OK, that's for really fast, most might go for 2ct's, my preference is the first combo unless i have a trip to do and will opt for something a bit more road orientated:thumbup

I know this isn't for this post, but Im in distress, my fellow RSV riders. I have an 04 Factory, I was pulling a wheelie on the express way, a turn came up so I hit back break harder than I should have and "Bam" the bike comes down hard. It cuts off, so I pulled to the side and tried to start it ... it starts, then just slowly dies off. I start it about 10 times does the same thing. I give it a lil gas ... it cuts immidiately! I took both ferings off to check for ruptured hoses, broken gaskets, loose wires ... nothing ... all intact. Can anyone please help with this problem if you know anything. The closest shop to work on this bike is very far.

Cheers for this, I guess I'm still riding the damn thing like an in-line4, i.e. too many gear changes, too much on/off the throttle, rather than riding the torque, my brother-in-law also has a similar problem on his '06 model and he's come from an i/l4 too!!
The backfire has only happened once but I suspect that it may have been re-mapped, as i briefly spoke to the previous owner at the bike shop, who had some arrow cans for sale: I reckon he just put the standard cans back on to sell it & didn't re-map - this could account for the 'backfire' and for excessive fuel use I guess! So when I get his phone number I'll check this out!!

Hi NewBoots !!

1/. Anywhere between 100 and 140 miles depending on enthusiasm !! But I usually wait now for the light to stay on solidly before I worry about refueling !! When you're getting low, it can flash on and off fairly regularly with lean angles, hard acceleration/braking etc. I think the sensor in the tank is a little too sensitive to be honest !!!

2/. I had backfires even after MAP II was loaded - it also had a tendency to stall during low speed stuff. Southern Cross found that the fueling wasn't balanced across both cylinders ! A CO2 test, and a few tweaks on the adjustment screws balanced things nicely - no more backfires, and no more stalling !! Although I do miss the pop-pop-pop sound when rolling off !! I liked that !! :)

3/. Not noticed much difference.

4/. Normal .... I think !

5/. I've only ever run Diablo Corsa III's - they seem ok to me in both wet and dry.

PS - That's on a 2007 RSV1000R, and oh yeah .... I'm a newbie to Aprilia too !!

Nice one Minty.....That's the answer I've been looking for, thought the fuel gauge was a bit tooooooo sensitive, I'll wait until I get a constant fuel light (and hope i don't run out!) from now on...also cheers for the comments re-misfire, the bike probably needs a good checking over by someone who knows what the fudge they're looking for, thankfully I've got a good garage nearby - Forza Italia who appear to know their Italian Marque's fairly well!!
Also the diablo corsa's I've currently got seem to be a good overall tyre so I'll stick with them for the time being:thumbup
aaahhh!! the feeling of relaxation and contentment is sublime!!:biggrin:biggrin

Oh, and I should've said - ditch the standard cans !!

When I put the Arrow carbons on, and had MAP II loaded etc etc etc, the bike was transformed !!!

If you're still running the standard cans, it'll need to be running MAP I -
apart from the fueling, it also switches the circuit for the lambda sensor. As well as making the bike run "wrong", running the wrong map with the wrong cans can eventually kill the sensor.

Hi New boots,
Re fuel - I have a 2001 RSV Mille R with Boewulf can - not sure about mapping/wire cut - any idea how I can check that? 15t front and 41t rear (but will change to a 44t soon) and like the other guys I would wait till the fuel light is on constant. The last time I measured, around 15 miles from constant light and then 14 litres fill up after 156 miles of mixed riding (not thrashing) - seems like I could get a reasonable distance.
I have Dunlop 207s but will change to something else. They are OK but I think there are better tyres around - Corsas probably.
Cheers
WHY DO THEY LOCK PETROL STATION TOILETS? ARE THEY AFRAID SOMEONE WILL CLEAN THEM?
