parastic draw - C fuse

Hi

My bike cut out when I was riding it yesterday. It might have been when the fan came on. On closer inspection the 30 amp fuse was blown - the one closest to the front of the bike. Now every time I start the bike it blows the same fuse. If I'm using my multimeter correctly, I think I have a big parasitic draw. When I remove the C fuse the draw drops to zero. I swapped the relays around but it made no difference. I unplugged the wires into the temperature sensor (breaking the circuit?) but the draw is still there.

Any thoughts or tests I could perform?

Can I start and run this bike without the C fuse? Does it only control the fans?

Ignore above post. I don't think I have a parasitic draw at all. All I know for sure is the 30 amp fuse blows every time I start the bike.

The C fuse feeds the fans and the clock in the right side multifunction display. So then, engine should also run without the C fuse installed.

From a troubleshooting perspective, it would be helpful to know exactly which 30A fuse is blowing.

The 30A fuse connected to the Red/Blk wire feeds secondary fuses A & B, and it also receives charging current from the regulator.

The 30A fuse connected to the Red/Wht wire feeds the ignition switch and fuse C directly, and then routes to secondary fuses D & E through the ignition switch.


Per the wiring diagram, you should be able to remove fuses A, C, & D and still be able to start the engine. If the short remains, you can concentrate the search on the remaining circuits.


If it were a parasitic draw that occured with merely key on, then you could use a test light in place of the fuse and disconnect circuits and components until the draw goes away. Unfortunately, yours is not that easy.
