Paddock stand help!

I bought a rear paddock stand off ebay so I could clean / lube my chain easier and make cleaning the bike easier in general. Its the first time Ive bought one and was wondering if there is a good technique for getting it on the stand by yourself. I managed it by putting the bike on its side stand, then placing the paddock stand under the bobbins, tilted so it would slot in. I then lifted thi bike upright and was able to lift it up. It just felt very unsteady and I can see myself dropping it at some point.

Getting it off was tricky too. I lifted the paddock stand half way with my foot, holding the handlebars, then pushed the bike forwards. It worked but fairly crashed down.

Any hints on a good tecnique?
Thanks

You are doing it right, here is a tip though that makes things easier and less likely to drop it, if you take the seat pod off so you can get a good grip on the rear subframe it makes things steadier plus you have a better grip to balance it.:thumbup

Good tip that, I always stand on the right hand side of the bike and rise that way. Very handy them stands!

i get the cotton reels lined up on the stand with the bike on the side stand (paddock stand is at the same angle as the swing arm at this point) ,stand at the rear of the bike i pull the bike backwards at the same time as pushing the stand down watching the cotton reels stay on hooks once the bike is up right i make a final check on the reels before i push the stand home.
sounds dead complicated but in reality it takes me 10 seconds max .

Thanks... :thumbup

Looks like I was doing it right, after a few tries hopefully I will have the hang of it.

Same here. The cotton reels are a must

I put a piece of wood under sidestand to get bike more vertical so theres less chance of paddock stand popping off o/s bobbin/cotton reel

Getting it off, I hold the left bar (standing on the left), give it a shove in the rear of the tank and 'trip' the stand with my foot. That way you've always got two hands on the bike.

i've always had no prblems getting the bike on the stand, it's just getting the bugger off, never have enjoyed doing that.
In the end i got adapters for my abba stand & am much happier:thumbup

get an ABBA superbike stand. very easy and secure one person operation. highly recommended piece of british engineering. just a pity about the name.

YEP, there is NO WAY I would use a paddock stand. Too bloody risky one handed dancing at the back of the bike. I got my self an Ultipro Stand its a variation on the theme and I requires no fittings, fits all my bikes :D

Ive only owned a abba stand for about 2 months, when using it for the first time i wondered why i hadnt invested in one earlier. Yes they are more money but worth every penny, the bike is extremely stable once up and it can all be done without any help.

In the past ive always got someone to hold the bike upright while i pop it up on a paddock stand, just too risky if you fook up.

All i need now is a Front Paddock stand :biggrin

That does look good... next time I will look into one of them, for now I am just gonna have to get used to the paddock stand.

I have the bike on the side stand then place the paddock stand on the bobbins at the same angle, then I take hold of the exhaust hanger on the left and slowly lift the bike upright while holding on to the stand and makinf sure it stays on the bobbins. Never had a problem with this technique.
Getting it off the stand is just a reversal, making sure I keep hold of the exhaust hanger.

Sadly the only marks on my bike are from cack handed paddock stand application :(

when getting it on the stand myself i use the rear seat and stand on the right nice and close so the exhaust hits my leg if its leaning too far, it also seems to help stability alot by making sure the handlebars are straight

as for getting it back off i do the stand tripping routine aswell, but hold onto the exposed bit of subframe just behind the seat and the handlebar so i can take the weight of the bike easily

a second pair of hands is always best though

Eeza

I have the same stand, but use it the other way round so that when the bike is on the stand the small round bar that is welded to the bottom actually acts as a 'stop' so that the bike can't tip forward. Also the handle works much easier if you assemble it the other way round - i.e. swap sides.

Cheers

Paul
