Paddock stand chain chatter?

Hey guys,

So got my new paddock stand through the post, and had some time to clean the bike. So whipped it up on the stand and gave her a good wash. Now, when I went to oil the chain, turned bike on and into first (as I used to do on me gsxr600), and let the wheel turn. However, the chain chatters a lot when its doing this, both top and bottom. Is this normal? due to there being no weight on bike? Or is something up?

Ta,

Anton

I would expect it to chatter as the twin will pulse alot more than a il4, just mind your fingers near the chain with the engine running, my mate matt lost the tip of his index finger after getting it caught in his triumph speed triple a couple of years ago.

Ouch! I keep my fingers well away! ok cool, thats ok then. ITs also def. the noise I get when I used to accelerate away at too low revs (when I didn't get twins!).

Yes it chatters...

What I do is to run it up to 6th and hold it with the clutch slightly disengaged - enough to stop it chattering. You'll know when.

And i have always turned the wheel with my hand while greasing the chain. When a trough out lubricating is required i remove the heel guard and place a part of cardboard under and beneath the chain and after that a good spray of Motorex.

Opps, sorry, my last post was misleading....

I don't rotate the wheel under power when lubing the chain. I only put it under power to work the stuff in a bit afterwards.

BTW, I use PJ1 - comes out of the can like paraffin, sets like toffee, and I've not experienced any fling (up to ca. 145 mph).
