So forgive my lack of terminology and grasp of the exact workings of a clutch so bare with me here while I try and explain my predicament. Earlier in the year I changed the clutch push rod seal and while putting the clutch back together I over tightened the inner clutch basket bolts (the ones with the springs). The oversight was caused by numb nuts here reading my torque wrench incorrectly - read ft/lbs instead of Nm. It took a few revolutions of all bolts for me to realise I must of exceeded the Nm value which meant the bolts have been spinning on the threads everything went back together OK and was able to torque the bolts correctly but my concern is I've weakened the threads and eventually will fail. I've done a few hundred miles on the bike and all is well but have a trip to Ireland planned in July and want to ensure the bike is OK. What would people recommend I replace if anything? Will the springs on the basket bolts ensure tension holds the bolts in place or do I need to replace certain items. There a few clutch bits on eBay. Theres a full clutch from USA for £80 or just an inner clutch basket which is going for £6 on the bay? I haven't looked into new prices but suspect parts are hard to come by. Will ill failure be gradual and the clutch would start slipping before any major catastrophy with the clutch inner basket / bolts threads as If I understand correctly the bolts push on the pressure plate? ? I will most likely have the bike for some time and if £6 plus new bolts springs is needed for piece of mind then it's money well spent. I ain't sure what's needdd apart from a brain transplant to ensure I read the frikkin torque units correctly!
