I didn't think we'd get out today due to the frost but the sun woke up nice and early and thawed out the track for us so we were out only 15 mins late.
session 1 on the sighting lap we dropped down cascades onto the straight and the two lads and the instructor in front opened up. I started to give chase but the body bike stopped pulling and started banging like it was cutting out so I changed up and it stopped only to start happening again.
1st thought was what the bloody hell is up with this thing now. 2nd was to look at the dash for any efi warnings etc. a red light was flashing like mad.
I figured out quite quick it was the rev limiter, so I made a mental note not to rev it so hard. Not that that stopped me from hitting it a few hundred more times in the day.
Before I know it every bugger is ridding really slow and I'm passing them left right and center without even pushing the bike hard.
About 5mins later the flag is out and it is session over. why have we stopped early? I'm normally worn out and waiting for the flag on the 7r.
In the pits I make changes to the suspension to stop it bottoming out and Dave ( my father in law) says to me that he was riding the wheels of his 600 trying to keep up.
next session just the same but I tired with arm pump due to the brakes being too far away from me. Using the bikes clock I notice we were out for 20 mins. Again I'm passing peeps far to easy but a couple of racers flew past.
session 3 is a single lap and in as some numpty threw it at Cascades on the 1st lap, restart and get two laps in trying to warm the tyres (2.12 I think ninja21 said) and back in session over another numpty has binned it.
after lunch and a shed load more suspension and brake changes I tried pushing harder only to go slower. The more I rev the bike and tried to ride it hard like an IL4 the worse it got. Down changes had the back end skipping and sliding, the rev limiter kept ruining the fun in the corners, braking hard and late lifted the back wheel off the floor. A look back and Dave and his mate are right behind me so I started really trying top get a move on, but figured out it wasn't working.
So I got lazy again and carried the corner speed, braked early and smoothly, I did late gear changes at lower revs going down the box didn't rev the motor and just rode the torque and before I know it I'm looking back at the track going towards foulsons and the riders that were behind me are now coming around island.
It was so smooth and easy going I tried using the on board stopwatch/lap timer for the 1st time pulling in a 2.08 easily.
Session 5 went nice and steady and was uneventful. Bar the slower traffic which was a complete nightmare as it was groups of lemmings barking all over the place and slowing each other up. I'd overtake one on the way into the bend to find the one in-front braking at some bizarre place and making me slam on.
Freak and Lilly (friends from another forum) turned up in the interval and admired my new beast, the look of horror as I used my 'unique' way of opening the petrol cap on Freaks face was classic.
session 6 I got a bit wrong and went out with the fast group. But I had fun and kept out of the way (ish)
session 7 seeing as I'd got the group wrong I went straight out with my own group as luck would have it I'd measured enough fuel for two more sessions. I had a scream, I pulled to the front of the group and had the track virtually to myself bar the three really quick lads (racers) that went past.
Had a look at the end of the session and had no-one behind from foulstons all the way to Cascades! and had just started to catch the tail enders.
In a nutshell this new bike rocks.................... my 7r is *****..........
