Hi all, am currently like some others looking for a cheap winter hack- my dads mate who buys and sells old bikes for a little extra beer money has an fzr600 for sale. Not looked at it yet but he just said "not sure if its a genesis or exup, starts and runs fine 20k on clock but needs fairings and tidying, 250 quid" im not too bothered about fairings as i might streetfighter it, just want any honest past owners opinions on these bikes as i still want something that handles reasonably well etc. Good bad points etc. Thanks guys :thumbup

great bikes mate built a few of em back in the supersport 600 days.....the tool to have !!

no real weak spots aprt from brakes seize the usual yamaha ****** calipers

cranks bend if you drop on the left side hard....but you gotta c
do a real number on it to do that BTW!!

hope this helps??

true!!

i saw a beautiful standard RU the other day dude......still rock my world man!!! cool bikes!!!

As the guys said, they are pretty solid bikes but most will be getting tired now, especially brakes and suspension. What model is it - the later FZR600R was a better bike than the early model and was basically a Thundercat in different clothes. The 600 has a steel frame and swinger so look for rust, they were also popular with the racers so look for signs of crash damage. A mate had an ex race one and it burnt more oil than my 350lc! However, for £250 if it runs and rides ok you won't go wrong. The engines are sought after by the sidecar guys so you could get your money back on the motor alone.

Griff, the RU was a poor imitation of the early twin headlight EXUP, here's my '89 :thumbup

Nice, chuckable, nimble bike mate, which enjoyed being thrashed ! :biggrin

If the condition`s right mate, get it bought !

Thanks for all your help guys :thumbup Griff, if you say they're good bikes thats good enough for me! Will let you peops know what its like if i buy it.

250 quid, its a no brainer but I'd HPI it just in case ;)

The mark 1 Fazer 600s c/w T.Cat lump (much better than the R6 derived version that followed IMO) are starting to surface around a grand, but £250 - job done.

the fzr they dressed up in the yzf750 clothes was one i wouldnt of minded in the past, until I got the yzf , what a screamer lol
