Oily question ))

What is the norm for this engine of oil consumption? I'm starting to notice warning oil light in the mornings (now was the second time). I did 3K miles since I bought it.

If it was just on the limit when you bought it then 3k miles could have made the difference. Top it up and keep an eye on it, if there aren't clouds of smoke following you then there's probably no need to worry...

oil level showing in the middle after good 20 min. ride, but in the morning it kind of empty when you first start it - I've heard this is normal. Anyway in September 'she' will see Griff ))

if the oil can warning is on for a few seconds when you start the bike - especially warm, then it isn't a worry. There is a lot of debate over the benefits of this, but Rotax redesigned the oil filter and put a higher flow filter in, which is a bit bigger. It causes this low oil pressure warning for a few seconds when the bike starts, as long as you don't see the warning as you ride, or for more than a few seconds it's nothing to worry about.

Oil consumption wise, try to keep the tube filled in the middle third of the range, too much & it will blow out of the engine, past the rings and out the exhaust etc, too little - well I guess you can figure that out. They use more if you top them right up.

Ignore the level in the mornins as it lies, ye need tae check it after a run. Make sure bike is vertical as well as a couple o degrees lean makes a fair difference. Try to keep it topped to the upper level if you can.

Also depending the filter type fitted (long or short), and I can,t remember which way round it is ) can occassionally cause the oil light to momentary come on. Nothing to worry about.

Batfastard on here has posted info on this very problem before so if you trawl thru the threads I,m sure you will find more and better info.

Look down on the left infont of the gear change shaft at the filter cover cap down there, if its quite shallow ie doesnt stick out much its the short earlier filter, and if it sticks out about a 25mm its the longer one. The longer one is fitted to the later model Gen 2s. Thatll allow u to identify which one u got.

**** sorry D and BF, it took me so long to reply I probs just repated what BFs just said

Rico ye fud!

Don't worry about it, it's one of the common newbie questions, like "where's the back brake?" or "how do I stop the clocks misting up?" or "does everyone have to fill up after 100 miles?" etc.etc.

At least we are all telling him the same thing. :)

I sorted head bearings and un-seized the linkage just for now (September booked with Griff) Also saved some money (labour - £100, original bearings - £40)

to be honest I can feel the difference but still the front is very lively and I still have big play in the rear so it's far from what I expect )) need the 'master' touch ))

The front might be lively as you need to keep it on the floor

Its a 'kin Tuono B min...course it gaun tae be 'kin lively..its why we luv them.

An Dim min...."play in the rear" soonds kinda suspect loon!

Rico, play in the rear linkage bearing which needs replacement. I just temp make it work.

Ok So another 1st Oily change question, Have just drained oil, replaced filter & refilled with oil. Should I start up & idle for a couple of minutes to let circulate then recheck levels??

Haven't you got to take it for a short run to check the level Tricky. Thats what I was led to beleive but I've been wrong before.

I'm led to believe you've got to be careful about something!!!!!! Owners handbook says not a lot except how to dismantle & reasseble panels etc & tells you how to change gear & be careful when applying the side stand & carrying a pillion. WTF Oh & how to wash properly using warm water & detergent.

Ok So I missed the oil pump screen bit out & the oil filter drain plug too. don't think she'll blow up just yet though. But it is pissing it down again & I'm getting fed up with it.
