hello chaps.
my tuoldo aint new, i know that.
what i do know is that its been well looked after.

what i dont like is rust !
and i,ve started to notice tiny rust spots breaking out on my oil tank.

i,ve started looking around for a spare, to either repaint or even get chrome plated.

any other ideas guys?

Don't look.

my 08 tuono factory has had the oil tank replaced under warranty and the bike was only 11months old, washed once a week and sprayed with scott oil 365

i can understand that the tank has an inherrant fault, open to the elements and made of *****. mines 4 year old so no warranty claim.

anyway, mines comin off in next few weeks, paint or chrome? i dunno yet.

why the hell wer,nt they made in stainless from the start....

The 2000-03 Mille R had a stainless tank fitted, if you can get hold of a second hand one, you've got the option of painting it up or polishing it. They also weigh a bit less than the steel ones.

Dont chrome plate....chrome plate is very porous, unless the correct bs standard is adhered to, layering up nickel and the sealing layer first onto the metal which I believe to be brass or copper, prior to the final layer of chrome......cowboys tend to miss out the brass/copper layer because of cutting down on cost if this is done then rust will appear within the first year. The thing to do with any chrome plating shop is give them a test piece (unbeknown to them of course) then file it and check for the correct layers, if you come across the yellow layer (brass or it could be copper I cannot remember which but in anycase it is yellow) then you could assume they have done it right, if no yellow layer appears they must wear large hats and herd cattle at the weekend. IMHO chrome would look ***** to say the least, how about use original as a pattern and make up stainless copy. I bet there would be a market for a few of those, on here for a start... failing that strip to naked metal, sweat the metal for 12 hours (bake it) then seal it and have it sprayed by a good paint shop.....should last the bikes life!
