Oil on sidestand

Evening all,

Hope you don't mind the compulsory just joined please help me thread.

I've recently bought a 2001 RSV Mille and apart from the Italian electrics (my rev needle sits at 10,000rpm even at idle) all is well.

However I have noticed a light film of oil on my sidestand whenever I've used the bike. I haven't had the chance to pull the fairings off to get a proper look (typical scottish weather).

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before??

Bike has 33K on the clocks and has done 60 in the last 2 years.

Cheers,

Chickenz

Welcome!

Could well be oil from the chain? Have you lubed chain recently?

If not then maybe oil seal on gearbox shaft is weeping a little..

I expect its from the chain. It collects from the front sprocket behind the cover and runs down and cakes the sidestand.

I had the front sprocket cover off last night and gave it a good clean. Dried the chain off then went for a quick run and when I got back it was oily again. I checked my oil levels again and all is fine so its not pissing out or anything, theres none on the tyre or anything? Should I just keep doing that?

Have you tried running the engine while still and check for any oil mist from filter housing or oil hose (from reservoir)?
Get it really clean and dry and use kitchen tissue to see if mist coming from one of those

100% clutch slave cylinder. Have you had to top up the clutch fluid? They can weep quite slowly and the fluid runs down the stand.

Not as thick as engine oil hence just a film of oil/fluid.
