ok in my limited knowledge i would say either...

running low on oil, check and fill if nec,

oil pressure sensor faulty,

oil pump not producing enough oil pressure,

i am sure i have been no help whatsoever, but i do try.....:biggrin

Thanks for the welcome and fast reply, oil level is spot on, how would I check/replace oil pressure switch/sensor?

Welcome to the forum.

How technical are you and have you got a repair manual?

First you must check the oil level is correct before doing any further investigation work.

Once that's confirmed as OK, let us know and we will see where to go next.

Also, you state that the oil light is on when first starting, do I presume it goes out after a while? Can we have lots more info on what happens, don't want to mislead you.

I'm an ex car mechanic, so good idea about what's going on, wondered whether there was a known issue with this model. Oil light goes out after aprox. 3 mins. Sorry haven't got a manual.

Its normal for the light to be on before the engine is running. Once running the light should go out very quickly!

No probs then all you need is a link to the manuals Click Me. Yes our beloved bikes do have issues with oil pressure switches.

Could just be a defective switch and if I was in your situation and the oil level was all OK then I'd possibly bin the switch as a starter.

PS. The manual is in the file vault too.

Oh, has it been serviced recently, could have a dodgy filter fitted.

A known issue with the 04 RSVR. LOL you could say that there are a few yes.

Oh and Welcome to a world of ploughing money into a bottomless pit.

But it really is worth it when it comes to play time!!!
