oil light on at idle

Cheers boys.........yeah that was my thoughts so happy with that. it's running fine here at cadwell so feel better!

Do you have the short, or the long filter?

The long one will flow more oil (which is good) but does not have the non-return valve which is in the short one (which is not so good) ...both are ok, just different. I guess you pays yer money and takes yer chance eh?

Mine used to come on for a few secs when starting up hot, I swapped back to the short filter, problem sorted.

If the oil pressure does take a serious dive, she'll put herself in 'safe mode' and you'll be going home at about 20 mph.

It's not a non-return valve afaik, the long filter does not have a bypass valve (unlike the short one.)

I believe this is the official story (from Griff I think) about the long one and the short one....

Long version has no bypass valve which is why it has to be longer otherwise it wouldn't have the same flow potential as the short version were it the same length.

Reason as to why - reliably told cos Aprilia didn't pay the bill in 04 so Champion withheld supply. Aprilia had to switch suppliers but couldn't copy the original as it is a patented design. Then the bill got settled in the buyout so both are now available. At the time Aprilia gave some story about the new design aided cooling or something to hide the real reason for the change but truth is just simple as different supplier, different design.

Never have the long design personally. A few peeps on Af1 and Garin also i beleive had oil pressure warnings at low revs which miraculously went away when they reverted back to the champion design. It was widely discussed on Af1 a few years back if you want to check further. Most saw no issues at all though but the old design weren't broke so i stuck with it.
