Well I am really worried sick worried....had 600 mls service and manifold at 1000mls which oil level was checked and ok....now after a good ride racing mates and even hitting rev limiter once I noticed it rattle loud on start up like they do but mine never really did this...so today though I would just check level and found this to my horror! Ok if I lean the bike a little over to the right I come up between level marks but it's just below minimum and this is cold after two days standing starting and getting upto temp I dare not think if its going to be lower!! It's used some bloody oil in 1k..I really hope I have done no damage

Might not have been filled up properly at service. Top it up & keep an eye on it.
Coud be its used a bit after a thrashing, check it after next run out, and if worried have a word wit the stealer

I do remember thinking that the oil was a little low than expected when picking it up after 600ml service then forgot!!..... Again if I had done the oil change myself like I have always done but cant now due to warrenty issues I would know exactly whats happened and would not be in this situation as I would have filled it to the max....

I would go as far as saying that all my bikes todate have had more care and looked after better when doing the work/service myself than going through the stealer...

Is that pic the oil level cold?

The manual does say to check oil level go for a short ride then check, oil level goes up when oil is hot.

Extract from the manual:

DO NOT IDLE THE ENGINE WITH THE
VEHICLE AT A STANDSTILL TO
WARM THE ENGINE AND BRING THE
OIL TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE.
PREFERABLY CHECK THE OIL AFTER
A JOURNEY OF AFTER TRAVELLING
APPROXIMATELY 15 Km (10
miles) IN EXTRAURBAN CONDITIONS
(ENOUGH TO WARM UP THE ENGINE
OIL TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE).

· Shut off the engine and wait for
a few seconds.
· Keep the vehicle upright with
both wheels on the ground.
· Ensure that the vehicle is on a
level surface.
· Check via the inspection glass
in the crankcase, on the righthand
side of the vehicle, that the
oil level is near the upper marking.
- Upper marking = Max. level

Yep that is what I found the oil level was higher when hot and had to take some out!, only about 100ml to top up so not so bad....only done 100mls looks like that will be it next ride will be for service 50mls...

Never known or cannot understand how the oil level can increase when hot after its been standing for a week. You would have thought all of the oil would have drained into the sump so would read high...

Oh and just bit advice I was told on another forum appears that it is very easy to over tighten the sump plug and crack the sump casing!! Appears on forum member has replaced about 5 sumps to date due to owners doing this....be careful and use the torque settings.

Oil expands when it gets hot hence the reason for a higher level when the motor is hot.

Same with tyres, check the pressure cold and then check it hot. The pressure will have gone up due to the air inside heating and expanding.
