Hi guys.
Just wanted to pick your brains with regard to the oil level.
I had my first service from new (600 miles) done at my local Aprilia dealer last September and since then I've done just over 500 miles using the bike normally. Anyway I've been riding the bike alot this week with the nice weather for several 20 to 30 mile blasts encompassing town, A road and bypass and I've noticied that on checking the oil tube, (straight after these rides, with the engine off and the bike upright as per the manual and numerous posts I searched on here state) that the oil level is way over maximum to the point it's about 4 mm off the very top of the tube.
From what I've read in previous threads about the subject it sounds like the dealer may have over filled it. The only thing is I must shamefully say I can't remember checking the oil level since the last service 500 miles ago. Although in my defence I presumed the dealer knew what they were doing so I guess it wasn't top of my list. It was only by chance that I've been going for a few blast with a mate that something clicked and I thought about checking it and after two 20 mile/30 minute rides it was just off the very top of the tube as before.
Subsequently I had a minor panic and have drained about 300ml of oil from the tank on the left hand side as I'm sure it's overfilled because I saw that LEGS, among others said it's supposed to read about 2/3rds full on the tube.
So.....
- What are peoples opinions on the reason for the high level, am I right, has it been overfilled?
- Alternatively is there any legitimate reason that the oil level could or should be over maximum?
- Finally is draining oil from the side tank like I've done to get the level back to normal ok? (providing I haven't taken too much of course, lol!)
Incidentally I've had no issues with the bike at all.
Any input gratefully appreciated, thanks in advance.
