Andy Mac was telling me when Forza did his oil change he had to pay an extra charge for an official Aprilia oil filter housing converter.

Apparently they now use a different size filter that requires conversion.

Does my 2004 Factory require this mod?:dunno

Does Griff carry these parts???? He must do of course.

Filter was changed to a longer type needing a longer oil filter cover thats all

Loads still use the original oil filter with no issues

As far as i am aware, this is not a necessary mod. I believe it came about when Aprilia used a different manufacturer for their filters, and have since gone back to the original filters. Some dealers bought a quantity of them and need to clear their shelfs of them. (I think AF1 had something like 250 of them, and were a bit miffed when Aprilia went back to the original design) I believe the different length came about due to a one way valve inside them, hence the need for a new deeper cover.

You can still buy both the long and short type. 2.75 " or 3.75 "

The newer filter is longer simply beacuse it has no bypass valve so has to pass more oil through the filter medium at high loads.

In terms of function it offers almost no benefit except all the oil is filtered all of time whereas under very high loads the original would bypass some. (which is normal practice)

The original still outsells the new type hands down and as said the change came purely due to supplier switch when Aprilia fell foul of Champion who made the original in their financial woe period. As soon as that was over it became available again (despite Aprilia saying otherwise at the time).
