Can anyone recommend a decent oil for an oil change on my 2004 Mille R ? I have priced up the good stuff (Agip and IP) and will pay for it if I have to, but if there is a good alternative I would also consider that.
Cheers.

Cheers. I should have put this on the first thread, but do you know how much a major service would be and is it imperative that it is done by an aprilia dealer ? My bike has done 6500 miles. Also, do you have any idea what the service involves and can it be done at home ?

mines just done 5000, and i did a oil change myself and quite alot of metal chippings came out :S

Service intervals are 6000 miles for your 2004 model RSVR, alternating between a minor and major service. A minor service should be in the region of £150 which is a basic oil and filter change, levels check, lube etc.... A major service includes a valve clearance check and would be around £350 to £370 at an Aprilia dealer. Also spark plugs and air filter are changed on this service too

Where abouts are you. If you're not too far from Tamworth, midlands, then pm Griff aka fusebox, the meister on all things Aprilia as he runs Custom Resto and Race and will gladly service and fettle your bike. He'll be lurking about on here somewhere

Nice one!! I live in Swadlincote, 6 miles from Burton on Trent, so a trip down the M42 to Tamworth is no problem. I am going to do the oil and filter change myself, but I am riding to Barcelona next year and will need a proper service on it, so you can expect a call. Do you have a website for your business ?

I'm off for a few days before I go away this week, so if the MIL will look after my boy, I will definately take a ride over. By the way, thanks for all the info. i didn't get any of this when I had my R1:thumbup

the original website was www.customrestoandrace.co.uk but the first draught aprilia performance website will be goin live this week!!

www.apriliaperformance.co.uk

Now sort your lad out and get that new site up and running, I still keep checking to see if it's live but to no avail.
Crock get yourself to tamworth and have your baby fettled by the man the legend that is Griff. Mine's running sweeter and using less fuel so win win:doug
Will need plugs as well as heat shield and oil filter but will chat on the old dog and bone first:thumbup

Do I need a heat shield for the oil change ? If so, where about's is it on the bike and could you point it out in the hand book ? I am really keen to understand the bike as well as ride it, so I hope you don't think I'm a bit thick.

The heat shield is for the rear brake mate. It goes between the master cylinder and exhaust as it is a common problem for the exhaust heat boiling off the brake fluid and hence no rear brake. I think they are fitted as standard from 07 onwards.

... and nothing to do with the oil change Crock so don't worry.
