Ohlins steering damper Q!!

I have just noticed that my ohlins steering damper seems a bit loose on the bearing so bounces up and down when riding

Is this normal or can I replace the bearing:dunno

Sounds like it is normal, they do move up and down about 25 - 30mm, they have mounts that are what's called rose joints which are basically a ball bearing with a hole drilled through the centre to accommodate the mounting bolt.

This set up allows the damper to be able to angle itself correctly for the damper rod to move in and out of the body unrestricted.

If you're concerned over the movement at all then best to get it checked out by your local friendly technician.

yes I am aware that the rose joint(spherical bearing) has to have some movement but my damper is almost floppy there is no resistance in the bearing at all
just wondered if they are replacable
not taken it off yet to investigate

thanks amb67
yeh thats the same as mine
put my mind at rest anyway
lets hope they not both f****d eh:thumbup

LOL now that would be funny!

Nah, I looked at many others as when I first fitted mine I was paranoid that it was way too slack on the mounts and that it was gonna jam up mid bend or something.

Must admit I have never seen mine floating around whilst riding, way too busy avoiding the rabbits and horses on the roads.

We were talking about this the other day at Si's when griff was there, we tried about 5 different bikes and they all felt loose. I reckon what you would be looking for is free play rather than normal movement of the bearing. When i look at mine when i go along it doesn't look right bouncing around.
