:thumbup Wont to change tyres soon, bike running a 180 rear but would like the look of a 190 0n it.What are the best tyres and size for 2001 R model. Heard good reports on the BT016 .

From what I have read most people seem to think the 180 is best for road. Never ridden a 190 cross section rear bike so can't really comment from experience.

As for the BT016's, well I run them and I think they are great. Not done many miles on them yet as only got them at the end of summer but they appear to be excellent tyres for the price.

:thumbupCheers for that.Do you no if they list the BT016 for 2001 R model in a 190 size.Think thats what i will go for.

What size are you running at the moment?

Have a look here - Click Me

These are the guys I got mine from.

Looks like they do a 190/55 but wouldn't you drop the aspect ratio and run a 190/50?

Dunno really, best ask those that have done this and see what they think.

180s turn faster - search the site for possible clearance issues with some 190 profiles.

Never ridden them but followed Flick when he had on a set of 2CT's and he was obtaining lean angles that I wouldn't dare.

Worth considering if they come in 190's to suit yours.

I run BT 016 190/55 on the rear of my Factory, and i think they are the best road tyres i have had. (and i have got through a few!!) They turn just as a 180, but with more contact patch on the road, which ant' a bad thing. Even though my bike is newer than yours, i think the rear rim is the same size (6")

run 2ct's at moment superb tyre can't fault them but corsa111's are better for summer:thumbup
(lean angles amb :lol we will see:lol)

:thumbup cheers ,but they only list the BT016 has 180 fitment for my model:confused

As far as i am aware, in 2001 the 190 was only available in 50 profile, so 180/55 was used. since then we have the 190/55 used since the advent of more and more power from 1000cc bikes. the latest apes come with 190/55 as standered. you will have no problem with the handling with that tyre.

:thumbupAre you saying the BT016 in 190/55 fitment will fit my bike ok.

If you have a 180/55 at the moment then you are going to be only 5mm wider each side, so measure the gap between your tyre edge and the chain cos thats the only gap that gets close. The space to your hugger will not change as the curcumference(is that spelt right?) is the same as 180/55. My mate has an 03 mille with 190/55 and that is the same bike as yours.

:thumbup Cheers for that, will measure tomorrow. Thanks

I see no reason to have a 190. If it's for looks, you can't even tell the difference between a 180 and 190 by simply looking. The 180 on this size rim looks just as wide as a 190. I'd rather have a better turn.

Yeah I had a set of Super Corsa Pro's fitted last summer and have to admit when warm they are awesome tyres, but and it's a big but - when they cool down or water is thrown in to the equation it all goes pear shaped.

Lean angles hmmm!!

I was pretty worried last year that I wasn't getting on with my bike and thought I may have to sell it. I was following Flick to Ashford one day and could not lean the bike like he was, the bike was very harsh to ride and seemed to be very twitchy when cornering, low or high speed.

This was what I found to be the cause - Click Me

Pretty scary stuff to discover!!

Hopefully once it's fixed the bike will perform better and I'll have a little more confidence on it.

i've ran bt014 and found them a great tyre for road & track but i wanted something a bit more stickyier and went for the bt002 before the summer was amazed with how much confidence they gave, were even ok in the wet on my 2 days in france with them

Some 190 profile tyres you can;t fit as they clip the chain

also earlier milles i believe had 2 different rear wheel sizes unlike the newer ones which have one

Just to clarify what's been said here, some older pre 2003.5 RSV and RSV Mille R's had clearance issues with 190/50/17 tyres. My current 2002 Mille R had this issue with the edge of the tyre rubbing on the chain when fitted with a Michelin Pilot Sport 190/50/17. With a 180/55/17 tyre there is no problem.

My previous 02 Mille didn't have this problem with the same make 190/50/17 tyre. All things being equal in the make of tyre being the same, the 16/44 gearing being the same and wheel alignment checked and double checked, i still havn't found a reason why one tyre rubbed and another one didn't, so if anyone does know why it happens please explain

As for road tyres, unless you are a riding god then super sticky fast road / track tyres really only offer more grip over road based compound tyres when there is some serious heat in the tyre. You must think about warm up times, wet weather performance and mileage the tyre can offer.

As has been said before take a look at Michelin Pilot Road 2 dual compound as an excellent allround road tyre. I'd go with the 180/55/17 option

Why not go with what the vast majority use which is a 180/55, the reason being , it works just fine, the bike turns in quicker plus they will be cheaper, i really can't see the point in fitting a 190 for using on the road as the extra grip is not an issue even for quick road riding.

I use Michelin 2 ct's on the road and they are a good all round road tyre, they do spin up quite readily compared to a supercorsa or racetec, but that is with a fair bit of provocation, the 2ct's are a good compromise IMO as they offer good grip in all conditions with quick warm up as well, they actually make a good intermediate track tyre when it is neither wet nor dry conditions.
