i mean not a great a start at all, actually just not a start would be more accurate.

Went out for a very quick spin Friday to get the tax and all was fine, started a treat.
Today a different story. Cleaned it, rinsed it and then tried to start it to take it for a quick drying off lap and all it did was turn over, not even an attempt at starting. Battery has gone a bit flat now and it is obviously flooded due to the petrol smell in the garage.
Left it for about an hour with a charger attached and still no joy, not even a cough or a splutter.
I don't even have the tools to do anything simple, even taking the plugs out is not an option. Had all my tools nicked when they nicked my Kwacker.

Hate to say it but if this is the life of an Aprilia owner i'll be going back to Japs at this rate and pretty bloody quickly.

Fookin ell. They don't like water. Not jet washed water anyway. Have a look on Af1 for 'clicking starter relay' and its all their and tonnes more. The Tuoldo I had would only start from cold with full chokeythingy. When it was slightly warm, even after 1 minute, it struggled with any chokeything at all. And NO trottle. The Falco's the same. If the battery is not absolutely fully charged it will struggle. And if the starter relay is on its way out you've got no chance. It'll just keep whiring and clicking.
Like a say, 'brew, biccies, Af1'.

Not jet washed water just old fashioned bucket and sponge type water.
It turns over fine, just don't get any sign of it starting. With the charger i'm using it showed as fully charged so i tried it again and still nothing, that was with the "choke" on full, apart from a strong smell of petrol. Might try it with jumper leads on the wife's car later, if i can find 'em that is.
Will it ever unflood itself enough to start?

Yes, well should do. Sometimes they just will not start for whatever reason and ten minutes later they do, but their are some easy fixes on Af1 that will practically erase any starting issues.
Brown connector problem, starter relay, generator/rectifier etc. Sounds major but its not. All either under the seat or on the side under pillion seat fairing.

jeezo Smiff min, seems yer nae alone either, thirs anither new dude sayin same thing oan anither thread. Must be the season fur it!

Tae echo Nob, full charged batt essential as heavy lump tae turn ower an nae throttle.

i spotted ashcorner's thread too, partly why i'm so pissed off at the mo. If it was just mine and it was maybe the battery being a bit flat and i had it on the charger and it fired up i'd be ok but it seems there's an underlying theme.
i'm just pissed off that i can't go for a play and as it is my only means of transport i need to be able to rely on it starting.

Bad crack mate.
In the past if I've had a bike that won't start, and smells likes its flooded, I've closed the choke and keeping the throttle wide open spun it over, this gets shot of excess fuel and it should eventually start.

at the moment we're back in love. Got her going, Left the charger on and then spun it throttle open, cheers grin_factor, and when it tried to fire closed the throttle and kept spinning. She fired up but was well flooded. New 14Ah battery me thinks and an optimate or similar.
Can't fit my swingarm bobbins as the offside hole has a sheared bolt in it.:( I'll ask the shop to see if they can get it out when i get tyres next week.

Ah, the romance is back, it does make a beautiful noise.:thumbup

Glad yours is running, mine isn't. New battery I think and possibly a disconnect on the alarm. As another coincidence, the wife's bulldog wouldn't start either.
All in all, a real piss off day.

Smiffy,
The bolt on the right side (looking from the front) is threaded through the swingarm but also hgas a nut on the back which retains the chain guard or some bit of plastic ?
If you get the nut off you may be able to grab the bolt with some vice grips and run it right through.

unfortunately it's the other side that's the problem. I'll see what it looks like with the wheel out when i get the tyres.
