Nose Cone without headlight cut out?

I'm thinking of ditching the headlight on my first generation (03 model) Mille to try and save some weight.

Does anyone know of a replacement nosecone which'll bolt straight on but doesn't have a headlight cut out?

Failing that I already have an opaque headlamp protector- perhaps I could make that fill the void?

Cheers!

Easy! I never, ever ride at night and do a few track days.

Headlight probably weighs 6kg on its own and is at the top of the bike.
Plus, if I were to fall off I have no headlight to break.

My old R6 used to go out most weekends and had a full Harris race fairing and no headlight or indicators.

(As those of you who bother to read my constant moaning know, I'm struggling to get the most out of the Mille and am pining for something sharper. Before I go off and buy an R1 I'd like to try a few things on the Aprilia. It seems a cost effective solution to losing 5kgs)

Hi jon I can do you a white fiberglass one for £75 if you want this in coloured fiberglass add 20%, or I can do you a carbon fiber one for £300 hope this helps.

Top Man! That's very useful to know...

And that is just a straight replacement and I could use the original screen?

Jon,

you could always squeeze a dinky projector lamp in there like endurance racers have...then if you do get caught out you've got some light

I'll be honest, I was actually thinking of that. I look at twinshack quite a lot and they do twin projector headlights for their SV650 body kit:

I'd like to give that a try but I'm not very skilled/technically minded and hard of wallet!

Projector lights are definitely something I've considered, along with junking the original dash for a translogic set-up!
(Twinshack also do a mini-dash, it's cheaper, tiny but not as versatile. Just revs, speed and time I think?)

Yes jon that is a straight replacement, and as Redrat said you could fit projector lights. These are available in low and high beam at £30 each:thumbup

I always ride with headlight on, even during the day! Anything that makes you more visible to car drivers has to be a good thing.

jon,

i have read many of your posts with some sympathy
my last bike was a tweaked zx6r and it has taken my ages (best part of a year) to be truly happy with the ape. it wasn't until i got the 6r going again that i realised i now prefer the RSVR (although i still love the 14,000rpm and top end powerband when i feel like a thrash and the light weight, but it really doesn't have any 'character')

you can not make an ape into an IL4
put your bike back to standard, flog it and sell the extras separately

then buy an older R1 etc, you'll LOVE the power delivery
(but will then spend another £500+ improving the handling and it still won't be as nimble as a 600 - if you get a 600 you will then miss the ape grunt)

it's a real bugger but you need to be happy with the bike
and you're not happy with the ape, it will never give you that power kick
(unless you spend another £3000 on it)

you have now been told :thumbup

Got bike on optimate for winter & unplugged headlights for when i fire her up once a fortnight,,, Took her for a quick blast last Sunday and when i approached a junction a stupid cow :rant (as if i,m sexiest) in case Kelly - mille is reading pulled out in front of me ,,, so had to scare the ***** out of her :jack to let her know the script,,, reason for the reply is cause i,m convinced it,s cause my headlights were unplugged,,,,
Feel unsafe without em on ,,,,,:dunno
Dave good job u have u r rear light on so nobody rear ends u innitt :nana

Hi mate I have a brand new nose cone for 99-03 mille with no light cut out as was going to do the same its from performance products will let you know tommorow would want £55

Dont ride with lights on in the day! Its dangerous!!!!!

Ref the headlights on thing!!!

I never ride with my lights on in the day! For two reasons.
1. It does not matter how bright your lights are... if they dont look your way they wont see you....and thats why they pull out in front of you.... cus they didnt look.

2. If you have your lights on you are lucky enough that they look your way your nice bright headlight makes it far more difficult to accurately judge your speed. (especially on main beam that I see more and more riders using).

There is a third reason as well. In France you have had to ride with headlights on for years now. Since it became law the accident rate has not gone down and in the south its actually went UP!

So put them on at night....when its dark!!!

Had my front light off recently, it probably only weighed a few kilo's at most it is all plastic!

I've got a fairing with two endurance type lights fitted, its 98-00 style but believe it would fit 03? came with a belly pan and side panels, would prefer to sell as a job lot though. open to offers
