Ive just bought a 99 rsv, got it home and there is a whirring noise coming from the left hand side of the bike, which goes away when i pull the clutch in. Checked the trust bearing in clutch and its fine. Also when pulling away i can here a clunking noise sometimes from left hand side again?? The guy i bought bike from said the sprag had just been replaced. Anyone have any ideas??? Cheers.

hi bud ,when you say the left side do you mean when your sitting on the bike ? if so it sounds like it could be the bolts that hold the sprag housing through the flywheel they come loose or snap and can **** the Ignition unit up if they come right out its a common fault im sure bud ive seen it happen 3 times on a mate of mines bike theres 3 bolts and its number 5 in the link .dont ride your bike untill you check them mate i hope im right here good luck mate

Hi Biff, took fly wheel cover off, sprag bolts all tight, not 100% sure it is coming from left, could be right as sounds the same on both sides with panes off. I just looked at cluth bearing from outside, never took springs out and looked inside, is there a thrust bearing inside the clutch it could maybe be?? Not very clued on these things. Thanks.

Not very clued on these bikes myself bud ,my clutch bearing went on mine had vibes through my lever and funny noise and weird clutch hard to get gears mine gave like a sudden loss of pressure at the lever then went spongy and still no gears and noticed my right hand casing moving out when pulled in the lever .new clutch bearing and sorted its been ok since .and now i have a kinda miss or loss of power for a few secs and my speedo gave up the ghost lol these bikes seem to love giving us problems mate .had my old r plate thunderace for 4 years never had one problem with it .
been thinking of getting another jap bike but my mille is a minter for its year and i love the buzz i get from it so will be keeping it for a good while yet i think.

i would strip down the clutch mate and check the bearing on the pressure plate as i would call it right at the front make sure theres no play in it and it turns smooth and no plates broken

Same here

I have the same issue :eatcorn.
I also have checked my clutch, various bearings, plates, oil and could not find anything. I'm of the thinking that its a trait of the bike:confused
The bike was like it when I brought it with only 6,000 miles on it. It has now done nearly 13,000 - done a few trackdays, starts on the button anytime everytime and I cannot fault it:exclamation
Let me know if you find anything, however, I'm of the thinking that its nothing to worry about.:thumbup
