Hi Guys
Hoping you guys can help, went to start 02 mille the other day and she just wouldnt start, engine would turn over but nothing would kick in to make her start.
Had this problem before and changed the starter solenoid ,got one of the yam ones, also thought it could be the battery so decided to get a new one just to be safe.Put them both on and still wont start.changed the solenoid for a old one and bridged it with a screwdriver and she starts straight away ,but when i try starting up normal it just wont start.Any help greatly appreciated starting to get really frustrated now.
Cheers guys

When you say she still wouldn't start would it turn over on the button or nothing ? if nothing then poss switch failure ?

Ok, I have just had the same fault and cured it.
Story with mine, would crank on the button and give an initial cough then nothing until no start appeared on the dash.
If I bridged the starter solenoid it fired straight away so I was thinking bad earth and voltage drops to the injectors, so new 150amp solenoid extra earths and upgraded power cables and battery and still the same.
Stripped all the plugs on the loom and cleaned all the pins, still no start. Bike still only started if solenoid bridged, easy start squirted up the intakes or petrol poured down the throttle bodies. It would then start and run fine without problems but as soon as I turned it off back to non starting.
Out of desperation I took the ECU off my track bike and tried that, fired up off the button instantly. Tried suspect ECU on track bike and no start. Swapped Eprom and still no start so just got ECU off Ebay and alls good.
Bike was working fine before it failed to start, ECU had not been tampered with and no electrical faults that could have shorted it.
So if you can beg, borrow or buy an ECU I'd try that

ok cheers will give that a go first . If not will maybe try changing the sprag and starter clutch not sure what else to do ,running out of ideas.
Turning out to be a expensive problem , just as well I love riding a aprilia

Nothing to do with your sprag mate although you may knacker yours if you keep trying to start it without a fully charged battery rsvnicks could be onto something although I would try removing the ecu and giving it a clean and blow through with some air in the plugs could be bad earth try adding a extra earth and check the plug leading to the starter switch

Ok well just tried to start it again and this time pulled in the clutch and it started straight away, tried again without pulling in the clutch and no go ,would this suggest a new starter clutch is needed or is it still something else???

Have you tried starting the bike with the stand up ? And in neutral ? Could be the switch on the clutch lever ? It's not your clutch or starter I don't think as it would just spin and not engage

I'm guessing it's either the side stand kill switch or the kill switch on the lever it's a safety switch in case you try starting the bike in gear without lever pulled or stand down
