I finally got around to purchasing the recommended Yamaha starter relay and purchased a battery from AMG Power Sport model number X2-14 it's called the X2 Power and has a 2 year warranty. It's what the Harley guys are using and I got it from Batteries Plus. So far I can start my bike 9 times with no issues. To put it simpler I haven't had one start problem, but I still keep it on the tender.
I have not done any wiring mods at all as my brown connector isn't experiencing some of the issues others have mentioned.
