No life out of the old girl

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I laid up my RSV over the winter and tried to start her up today. She's had the battery on an optimate (in the house as it won't reach to the garage), it's had a full tank of gas, it's on paddocks etc etc etc. I put the battery back in today, the clocks all spun round, but there was no noise from the fuel pump or anything else. Then when I pushed the starter, nothing at all.

Any ideas?

It is alarmed, how do i solve this riddle then? The bike alarm de-activated once the new battery was in.
 
Dont quote me on this - and it may depend on the alarm model & how it is wired into the harness....
All the same, I understand the alarms have a cell within and these can die/run flat....It can only be charged whilst the bike is running ....so the only solution may be to remove the alarm because you can no longer disarm it ...!?
The lithium ion cells can die completely....
Like I say - its an issue I came across in a Meta Alarm system....and its Meta who say it will charge whilst the engine runs and not with the ignition on only.
Have you checked the fob has power also? :dunno

EDIT- ****...just read that the alarm deactivated when the battrey went in...it aint the alarm would be my guess mate.
Have you tried waiting to see if it re-activates after you remove the key...it will bleep.....? If not; as above ?
 
do you hear the fuel pump when you press the starter button? as its not kicking in it should be audible

I just installed a Meta, not sure what alarm you have, but i'm certain i can help you temp bypass the alarm.
 
I finally fixed it. The bike started when I jumped all the wiring to the starter.

So started to work back through the harness and eventually found the starter switch had somehow stopped working over the winter!

I removed the alarm, it's such a pain. I've fitted loads of physical security in the garage so I thought that it'll probably deter people more than an alarm anyway.
 
Alarms are for insurance companys, and perhaps some peace of mind when you leave you bike in the city centre or bike park. Immobilisers are more use IMO.
I fitted the alarm to my Yamaha, and it hasnt missed a beat nor flattened the battery atall ! I think the dashboard uses more juice but it depends on the alarm used....
