Hi all

Im about to trade in my Sv650 for a 02 Mille in good nick apart from some faded/cracking stickers which can be fixed easy enough,

I test rode an 04 R1 first and then the Mille, i prefered the mille hands down probably because i have been on the sv for the last 04 years and a firestorm before that,

Any way what should i be on the look out for as far as common problems etc, a mate reckons they suffer from electrical problems,

All advice welcome

Welcome jayjay. You will find the guys on this forum are very helpful, and knowledgable with the advice they offer so I wouldn't worry too much about any "potential" problems you may encounter. As long as you are happy with the checks you have already made, buy it and enjoy :thumbup

Hi Jayjay,

Make sure it starts ok cold and warm, the idle speed should be around 1200 rpm when warmed up.

It should be smooth on acceleration and there should be loads of it too.

Listen for clunks from the engine, drive chain, rear wheel etc...

Make sure the brakes work correctly and the rear brake doesn't lock on.

Have a sniff/look around for fuel/oil/coolant leaks, shouldn't have any really as mechanically they are pretty sound.

If the battery is more than 12 months old budget for a new one soon.

Make sure all the dash digits work and no EFI faults are being displayed.

And ask if the sprag clutch has been replaced and if the bike lives on a charger

:thumbup WElcome and you will not be disappointed at all just make sure all checks are done and service records . where are you located at .donnie

It's initially a bit daunting, going from a Japanese bike (albeit a Twin) to an Italian thoroughbread, they do need a bit more TLC...however I'm a lazy bugger with VERY limited mechanical knowledge & I've managed 2 years of Aprilia ownership without any MAJOR mishaps (apart from a rather nasty highside)....All the above comments indicate the main issues...just invest in an Optimate & make sure the bike is hooked up all year round...then you can enjoy it starting first time on the button & providing the thrills only Class A drugs dream of.....These bikes are cracking!

get the dealer to give you an optimate and new battery part of the deal :) Knowing what I know now I would demand a new battery on the off set.

Theses bikes seem to have a couple of funnies but I wouldn't worry about it. once you get on the bike it will be hard to shift that smile mate :)

Buy it and enjoy buddy
