Hi guys,

New to this forum and the RSV!

I pick up my 2003 RSV 1000 R (1700 miles on the clock!!!) on Sunday.

Totally bog standard and not a single blemish on her.

Expect to be bombarded with questions very soon

Cheers

Willie ......who also owns an XJR

Hi Willie! Got the same bike! These were designated RSV1000R after Italy sold more bikes in the Uk than they had available. They therefore rerouted a number of bikes that were destined for Japan to the Uk and designated then as RSV1000R to differentiate. If you contact Griff at apriliaperformance.com also known as fusebox on the forums, he can give you the total lowdown. Either way, hope you enjoy and welcome.

Welcome Williexjr to the fold and good luck with the uplift today! Where are you picking up from? May have been able to help you there as I have a van and am chief pickeruper for the shower of nutters I bike with! Good luck though and lets have some pics please!

Thanks for your offer mate - I drove down to Kirkudbright from Glasgow.

Got the bike (2003 with 1,613 miles) loaded into the Transit and strapped her down. I then had a worrying drive back home, stopping often to make sure the straps were still secure!!! (first sportsbike and a ******* compared to my XJR to tie down).

Unloaded her and was looking fwd to firing her up to let my mate hear the Giannelli exhaust tone.....bark, but the fecking battery was flat. ****.

What a palaver to get that seat off and battery out to charge!!!! - I've been spoilt with my naked over the years - everything is so easily accessible on a naked!

So battery is hooked up to trickle..............................

Welcome to the fold m8

1700 miles with the roads in kirkcudbrightshire, thats a criminal offence

Mod the seat bolts to pins

Then the seat just pulls off

First time I took my RSV up to Knockhill on the bike trailer I worried the whole way and it was tied down correctly, you just do lol

You substitute the bolts with pins and R clips.

If you don't want to make your own one of the members on here (think it's REDRATBIKE) makes the kits for a good price.

These also work as tank fixings as well,I made some and they are one of the best things I've done on the bike, access is much improved.

I made my own basic ones by cuuting a long bolt with a smooth shank section about one inch high

Then screw it in and all thats left is a smooth pin sticking up and inch

I never bothered with the clips as your arse is holding the seat down but also as you lift the seat it tightens up a bit so it wont fall off

The seat bolt also holds the rear fairing on my factory but i found its pretty solid without then bolted down and again my arse does the business

Is there any other little tips to be had guys? As I said, this is my first bike of this type.....only the second bike I've ever owned! Passed my test in December 2002 and bought myself the XJR in March '03.

Hers a tip " ABBA stand"

This is a hard bike to have to be first of this type as in riding position handling etc

Take it easy if you go out this winter and wait for the good weather to find out how well she goes

My first move was to buy titax shorties as I found the OE clutch lever odd but with the shorties I have so much more control

I also found her cramped and within 30 miles i was cramping up so I bought a set of jack up/down plates to make her more comfy

Get yourself up to knockhill in the spring for a track night/morning and make the best of her

Cya there

I might just do that Dynamo! My mate is from Penicuik - Russell's his name....feckin; crackin' rider who often does Knockhill - 61 seconds (on an XJR!!!).

:thumbup Mmmn! Look forward to that guys! Need to get mine on track to bond even more!:biggrin

Dynamo, still jumping into Callum's? Last time I seen you there you were networking with lots of cables!:dunno

You got me action im not sure who you are but not seen callum in a year or so

Look out for Saltire running the two hour open evenings, I find them best value at Knockhill

Knockhill is a total rip off for there own days nights etc, £180 for a day or £100 for a half day. they are having a laugh

Im looking to go south this year it wont cost much more just got to do more travelling

:thumbup Was on the SV forum bud and twas yourself that put me on to Big Stu at YPE to get mine sorted with the PC! Good job done. Will look out for their track nights. I'm a subscriber to his web anyway.
Agreed about the Knockhill rip off! Fancy going south too but nearest croft is fkd now too! So would be deeper south!
Keep me posted if your heading somewhere. Andi has bought a trackie too so will try to hitch up with him now and again next year.
L8r dude!:thumbup
