New tyres

My first post this, so hello to all.

First questions if anyone can help, I've a 2001 RSVR that needs new tyres - I've always replaced one at a time (Metzlers), due to front and back wearing at different times - unfortunately I need to replace front and back together, what's the best set to buy, I ride mainly country lanes probably too quick for my ability.

Any suggestions appreciated (on the tyres that is).

Hi dh1

Personally I like Pirelli Diablo Corsa IIIs (with a 190 rear). Quick warm up and stick like snot to a blanket. Mind you, I only get about 1500 miles from a rear (front's done about 2500 miles and will need replacing soon). A lot of people rave about Michelin Pilot Power 2CTs too but I've never tried them.

I get my tyres here http://www.fwr.co.uk

I recently changed my Pirellis sc2 for a set of Dunlop Qualifier RR, they are worth the money and I had a great time in the Eifel with them until I burned it on a dyno again.
Last week I had bought a set of Supermaxx Sports and I must say they head up quite fast and feel confident and needed just 5 grams of lead.
If you drive a lot in the wet I would take something else by looking at the threat.
But don´t go for race tyres you won´t get heat in em on the street!

Cheers Alain

Qualifier rr as well, done 2000 miles on them, including three track days, and still got loads left, recon they'll do 4-5k easy.

I always have sport attacks on mine and love them as they last. Top end sports/track tyres are wasted on the road as you wont keep them hot enough to benifit from there grip. But like many things its what ever you feel comfy on.

Probs a bit thickness on my part but who makes sport attacks then Sorry in advance for being a tummshy
:dowhat

Looks like use anything but Metzlers so far, If I get a few more hits then I'll see what comes out favourite overall and go for them - but no track tires (in this crappy weather lucky to get road tyres warm).

ta for comments & links so far

I'm on my second set of Michelin Pilot Powers, I've had 2ct's on my last bike and the standard pilot powers are just as good, but cheaper :pirate

i live in oz our roads get to hot for pirellis have michlin 2ct on my 03
rsvr and love them great in the wet but dont last long on track days

Got them on my track GSXR 600 and they seem pretty good. Might try 'em on the Mille next!

Don't be tempted by Bridgestone BT 021s though. I thought I try them 'cos I do high mileage and they were HORRIBLE. No feedback, felt like they were going to let go at any time (although to be fair they never did) and the front wore out in less than 2K anyway :dunno

The BT021 i have on the rear has let slide a few times exiting corners, 180/55.
Had BT014s on my Bandit 1200, they were wicked sticky but lasted 1500 miles
Going to fit Michelin pilot sport next.

I just bought a set of BT016.........i know - not everyones's cupa tea, just I am an old Bridgstone fan. I did some homework and seems rated good for street use and acceptable for odd track days. Complaints are that rear tyre can / does overheat on track and tends to slide a bit. While surfing around for info on the BT016 found this on the Fireblade Forum - seems the Aprilia intimidates those boys just a touch............coming from boring jap bikes - no idea really - shame. Once get a chance on a track day (probably in mid August - will send a comment ) cheers - Len

Hmmmm...........interesting thread this one.

Can't say I am overly impressed with the BT015s that came on my bike, and it sounds that I am not the only one. I don't quite understand the BT015 either. I always rode on BT014s, then out comes the BT015 for a very short period, then straight on to BT016. Does this say bad things about the BT015 ?

I have a friend of a friend contact who gets tyres for me and my mates. No questions asked, obviously. He gets Bridgestone,Michelin, Pirelli and Metzeler.

I'm not sure what to go for when this set is done.

Sounds like PP 2CT, but I never used to be a fan of Michelin.

Coming from an Aprilia, the Metzeler M3 Sportec got some really good feedback.

Any thouhgts guys ?

I wouldn't bother if I was you mate. I've got a pair on mine cos they were put on new just before I bought it,if I'd known I would have paid more and had almost anything else.

My Sv1000s came fitted with the damn things as OEM and they are *****. You never know when the back end is going to slide, when I realised the Ape was fitted with them I was going to change them for something else.

Trouble is they still had all the spiky bits on them I had just been made redundant so I couldn't justify throwing a set of new tyres away. I have Avon Storms on the Sv now and I would rate them light years ahead of the Pilot Sports wet & dry.

Done several thousand miles and 2 track days on them and they are hardly worn. I got the Mille to do trackdays on and when I can afford it I may try these Maxxis ones next.
