Hi guys, having a wrangle over a s/h tyre, how much tread does a new one have?
The ebay one that is sposed to have "a good 5mm+" turned out to be more like 2. They have offered one with 4mm now in exchange...
Dilemma

Would never ever use a second hand tyre, just inviting disaster...........

Pirelli Diablo.

Am thinking of just leaving it and waiting til next month or even spring!

It was a cheap attempt at curing my nervous front end eliminating the quite worn tyre for a better one.

:confused:confused:confused

Well I am being sent another tyre with more tread on, so we will see..
The plan is to wait until my 500 mile-old rear is dead, then bin the Pirelli's for some Bridgestones instead.

My BT 016's have 8mm on them and they are brand new. :doug

Second hand tyres on a bike, big no no in my books. :rant

They could be off a wreck!!! Or even worse could have caused the wreck.:eek::eek:

i've had part worns on and off for the past 5 years. never let me down. I don't get them from ebay, mine are always from the local bike tyre place biketreads.
all tyres are inspected before offered for sale and you can go and view, feel and take your pick, plus 15 quid per tyre fitted, well it keeps money in the pocket plus I get to see what type of tyres I like :)

I'm not scared to try, this is just really as a stop gap 'til I can swap the both for something else and all importantly, save a few ££££

I've bought a set of ex-race supercorsas for my track trip - supposedly only done 12 (racing) laps - bit knarled at the sides but the middle looks almost like new. They're so sticky I could eat them!
If they go well in Spain I'll buy some more.

There is a guy near me who supplies a lot of ex-track day rubber, same as you say, cooked at the edge and loads of road going meat in the middles.
I'm swaying away from anything too sticky for pure road use, they don't really seem too happy in the cold weather...
Plus I'm tight, so more mileage is more important to me.

What do you think and what did they replace?

Replacement with more meat arrived today so I'm gonna get that chucked on tomorrow morning.

Just also been on the Pirelli site and they recommend 36 & 42 Psi !

I've been running 32 & 36! Might explain odd feeling I've been having. My 3 Hondas recommended pressures were 36 / 42.

race scrubs are great...in the summer.
Diablo 111's or avon storms in the winter.

mate, they should be about 32/33F and 36R, when I tried the 36/42 that most jap bikes need, it felt orrible.
33/36 on the road fer me for the last 53k on the mille. Take a few off fer the track.

OK cool, that's what the local shop recommended and I trust them pretty much. They prep a lot of race bikes and the owner used to race too.
I'll stick with pressures in that area then.

I will probably go back to Bridgestones when the Pirellis are worn anyway. It's just what I had been used to on all my bikes before this. May be open to suggestions down the line tho.
