Greetings all, I am new to Aprilia, and actually looking for one. I think there is a Gen 1 Tuono closeby reasonable, so getting some research done. Plans are for a track day here and there, and mostly day rides around the Sandhills of western Nebraska. Are spare parts reasonable to be had? I am finding the Rotax engine seems pretty robust, and had considered a Buell 1125r because of it. I already own a 96 Moto Guzzi California 1100i, and have just plain like the way Italy designs their bikes. Well, except for electrics, but thats another discussion..
Would I be well served with a Gen 1 Tuono? Reviews Ive read seem to indicate that. There are some dealerships in Denver area, and lets face it, I own a 04 Sportster, and the local dealer has either had to order things or stuff like ignition modules are discontinued, so I don't mind being four hours away from a parts counter. Which where I am at is literally four hours away from anything..:). Does Piaggio do a good job with parts stock in the US? Aftermarket suppliers in the US? Thanks!

No, its not flat. No, its not a bunch of straight roads. Yes, very few law enforcement entanglements to be concerned with as well. Look up Sandhills Open Race Challenge car race, and that gives you an idea of the open road TT experience you have have.

Parts availability is not perfect however AF1 in the US has probably some of the best parts availability anywhere
So you should do pretty well. Great bikes but are getting old so expect the odd gremlin. Engines are very robust but depending on when they were done the valve cover gaskets could well leak from the lower corners. Check and repack/grease the wishbone and dog bone linkages y taking it apart as many look ok but aren’t.
Clean out the fuel tank and fuel pump filters. Replace the inline one and either clean or replace the tea bag style one. Both need the fuel pump removed from the tank. Depending on the ethanol content if your fuel the tank may of expanded and would need to dry out too. Use a fuel with the least amount of ethanol you can buy.
